Hey,
I've read about some cars (ie: carrera gt) that have over-reved on a missed shift and destroyed their engines. On our cars there is a fuel cutoff when you hit redline. Does that stop the damage from happening or is it still possible to destroy our engine with a miss-shift? I took 2nd gear a little too far today, and hit cutoff, so now I'm both worried and alot more cautious!
Thanks,
Josh

What you did shouldn't casue any probs...ONCE. Obviously you daon't want to do it again, but that redline comes up REAL FAST! I 've done it too. I'm more careful. You should be fine.

Yea, the downshift errors aren't cutoff by the rev limiter. We hit the limit on upshifts quite frequently on the track and that doesn't really cause any problems. 5 to 2 or 4 to 1, on the other hand is disaster!

The engine can never rev past the revlimiter since there is no accelerating force after the fuel is cut of. A common missconception is that it can continue to increase in revs past the revlimiter rpm because it's revving up so fast when you miss a shift. Once the fuel is cutoff, the rpm increase will stop immediately.
On the other hand, when you downshift into a to low gear then you have the driving force that will increase revs past the revlimiter regardless of any fuel cutoff.

silver. Miss shift isn't over reving when giving it full throttle as you know. What happends is either a missed up shift 2 to 1 or 4 to 3. Or a missed down shift like phillips said. Any car will blow up even if it has a rev limiter because the motor will over spin.

So where in the band of red between 6 and 7K does the rev limiter work? And, not to highjack but does anyone know where the Autothority chip pushes the redline, and is it safe?

So hitting fuel cutoff during say, 2nd to 3rd; isn't that damaging unless you do it alot? I always read or hear about people "bouncing" of the rev-limiter in their M3 or s2000. I'm to carefull to even take it past 5500, usually!
