Default time to r@r 951 engine

For those of you who have had shops remove and replace a longblock, what was the labor time charged?

For anyone who has done this themselves, how long did it take?

This includes no extra work, just taking one long block out and replacing it with another.

Thanks

Mark

if you are doing it at home, and just taking one out and putting another in...a day.

Alldata lists the standard R&R time for a turbo motor with A/C at 29 hours, not including cleaning or transfer of parts to the new motor. That's probably longer than it would take a good shop, but it's a point of reference...

Took me and a helper a good solid 14 hours to remove the engine. I'd probably be a little quicker next time, but that was going carefully and with zero experience with the 951 setup.

I reinstalled the rebuilt engine single handed in around 8 hours, to the point of crossmember on and suspension done. Connecting up the systems [exhaust, intake manifold, hoses & more hoses] took another 6 hours at least.

It runs beautifully and does not leak. which makes it seem worthwhile. That said, it was a lot longer than I anticipated. I could drop my 911 engine in an easy 2 hours!

Good thing is that you will know your engine and systems cold once you have done it.

Are you swapping any parts from engine to engine, or is it just, drop one out and put the other in? Thats where my 14 hours was coming from, no swapping of parts from motor to motor.

I will be swapping a few things, like intake manifold, turbo, clutch, cam tower, but all those together shouldnt take me more than 2 hours i dont think. I am just trying to get a feel for the actual removal and install of engine itself, so that I can compare my actual time (when the job is done) to the book time or to how others did.
