Which 3" straight trough muffler?

I have a DynoMax Ultra Flow 3" running with no cat on the Callaway turbo, and while not silent it has a nice melodic tone to it and a deep idle. My NA with the B&B exhaust with a cat is louder. I heard Magnaflow offer some quiet alternatives. The turbocharger does a fair amount of muffling itself. Your tip length will also change the frequency of sound.
Hope this helps!

I've used a 2.5" straight through Dynomax Ultra-Flow and a Magnaflow 2" straight through on a couple of NA cars. Of those two the Magnaflow was definitely a lot quieter.
The car with the 2" had a pretty short exhaust system with tube headers and just for grins we started it with the open header when we were installing it. I was worried that the system was going to be pretty loud no matter what we did after running it with just the headers, but it was actually pretty quiet. The Magnaflow was a much heavier muffler which I think equates to more sound absorbing material crammed in there. Granted a 2" is going to be a bit quieter than a 2.5" anyway, but I'd probably go Magnaflow of the two for quietness as well as having a less raspy tone overall. They both looked like they were built pretty solidly and I don't think either one is a bad choice and the pricing is pretty comparable between the two.

IMHO, Borla XR1 - the only one to use high quality SS and SS roving mesh. It sounds, performs and looks excellent. I tried the Dynomax UltraFlo and it blew the mesh out after only 18 or so months. Now it's loud and rattly. There are others, but Borla is a sound constant for performance.

I use a TRR muffler (SS) and it has a bolt in baffle that makes it as quite as stock. With the baffle out, its loud but also drops exhuast back pressure by 4 psi at 16psi.

I have a Dynomax Magnum Bullet muffler. Its a straight thru, "race" muffler. Its not exactly quiet, but its not super loud either. I still have the cat in place as well.

Nothing against Borla or you guys using them, but I think the Magnaflow muffler is probably a little bit quieter just because of the packing material used. Here's a cutaway of a Magnaflow: http://www.magnaflow.com/wideopen/wideopen.asp The Borla (at least according to their website) only uses stainless mesh for packing.
I'm still up on the air for which one I'm planning to use of the two, but since the original poster was trying to find the "quietest" 3" straight through, I think he'd probably be better served by going with the Magnaflow. Cost is comparable, even a bit less than the Borla that ST mentioned and they both have what amounts to a lifetime warranty. Again, don't take this as me flaming you guys in the Borla camp, they certainly have an excellent reputation and I haven't got anything against them at all. I just know the Magnaflow that I used was surprisingly quiet for being a straight through design.
While we're on the subject though, does anyone have a sound clip of a system using a 3" Borla, the Dynomax, and if someone's got one on their car how about a Magnaflow one too.
BTW for either Borla or Magnaflow, if you have or know someone with a business license and want to save a few bucks, you can get them at wholesale prices through Allied Exhaust which is more or less nationwide. I picked up the 2" Magnaflow that I used on a different car for I think $40 or $50 that way vs $60 at places like Summit Racing or a list price of $104 that I doubt anybody ever pays.

I have a 3" system with a Magnaflow 6" round for the "cat" and the SFR "Bullet" muffler and STILL too loud. I would imagine the turbo would muffle SOME... but not much.
