Rotella T Synthetic is a pretty good oil, although it is a Group III oil and not a 'real' synthetic. I wonder if it is as heat resistant as a real synthtic, and therefore more likely to cook in the turbo? Regular Rotella is not synthetic, just a heavy duty dino oil.

I've got Mobil 1 0W-40 in my '87 851. It uses about one litre per 750km of reasonably hard driving.
Does anyone know of a good cheap source in Europe for this stuff? It is fairly dear here. About €15/l!

Royal Purple is okay Lart. Don't ANSWER yourself. They supply to a lot of guys with more in motors than we have spent.
Highboost,
The diesel oils are going to have some additives you don't need but if the price is right they are just as good. My VW TDI has to have VW505.01 spec oil best buy is MOTUL it is great oil, the camshaft on a ***** Pump TDI has one of the worst ramp angles to drive the diesel injectors known to an internal combustion engine. Use any oil but 505.01 and your warranty is null and void. The Camshaft drives the injector pumps to over 10,000 psi or some ungodly number to inject the diesel fuel into the cylinder highly highly atomized. This cam has a ramp angle like an NHRA top fueler.
Diesel turbo's run a lot cooler than the gassers do so don't think your heat protection is any better. They have a lot of soot protection etc...but if the deal is good diesel oil will most likely meet or exceed the 951 requirements.
