the thing is, he has nobody to race against, so drums are the only way to go for competition. its better than winning by being the only car...and on this track, drums would be adequete. anybody have any ideas on how to do this?

as for cooling, the super truck series in europe run drums on all four corners, on transport trucks. These vehicles produce much more heat in braking than our car ever will. If I have to water cool I can, however the issue here is not if they will provide adequate braking. Does anyone know of a potential donor?

Thanks,

I would start finding any and every car that might have drums, even if they don't mate up perfectly. I would find the best drums possible and then machine some adapters or different hubs to work with the drums. You might even end up with a different bolt pattern on the rear.

I wasn't implying the tiny rear drums would be adequate, I just mentioned that because it is a little known fact that those are back there. I'd bet if you did find some drums to fit, they would be sufficient due to the minority of braking force they actually do. Can you buy hawk (or any) racing pads for drum brakes? I suppose you can get anything made with enough $$$. Tifo is right, it is a very unusual question. I'm not surprised no one has tried this, you may well be going where no man has gone before!

Check these guys out for brake shoes. I'm betting they could give you a lead on the best drum brakes for your application...

2350 pounds....that would be fun. Even with drum brakes in the back.

Perhaps instead of downgrading your brakes, you could take the time to recruit some quality competition into your class. Just a thought.

well, there was 1 bmw, prepped very nicely, but he has been occupied with club races, so even if we get 1 other car out there, its still not too much fun. going down a class might be a better alternative. more cars, and its a bit more competitive. anybody have any experience with those hawk brake shoes?

Sandy Dingos, that is a good point. Perhaps this is a good place to start.

Anyone interested in some regional racing at Mosport is welcome to attend our ALMS weekend where the Ontario Touring/GT series is a support series to the American Lemans series at Mosport.
The race is 1 hour long, with three classes, Touring, Gt, and Super GT.
There is a weight calculator to determine your base weight, the rules are relatively open.
Check out:
http://www.casc.on.ca/events.php
It is September 2-4
Series info and regulations can also be found at the following link.

Thanks,
