Yea, r12 is the original refrigerant. It should say so on the engine bay stickers.

All 944s & 1992 968s were R12 from the factory.

Newer cars (968s) used R134

You can't buy R12 anymore unless you have a license. The good news is that the test can be taken online for $20. I passed in about 30 minutes. Then you can buy the good stuff on ebay for about $10 a can. All the new cars use R134 which is not as efficient.

Too true. The required EPA certification is a joke.

Alternatively if you're lazy or want to save the 20 bucks, you can look at Freeze-12.
