Default WARNNG for Odyssey 680 battery users...

Just a little Memorial day tip. The Odyssey battery is an excellent product that weighs 14 pounds, and can be used every day. HOWEVER - the posts on the 680 batteries are NOT parallel (they are conical, not cylindrical ), and the Porsche harness connectors are. Therefore, you will have potentially a VERY VERY small contact patch at the upper end of the terminal. Now if you couple this with a slightly loose connection, you will have the untraceable ground nightmare from hell.

So I'm guessing that applies to any Odyssey battery with their brass SAE terminals on it? I've got a 925 I'm getting ready to put in.

I did make new cables using some Belkin cast copper terminals and I'm pretty sure they have the conical bores in them but I guess I'll have to double check. Thanks for bringing it up.

I guess you could always go the route of using the built-in threads and using eyelets and bolts on the terminals ditching the posts altogether. I'm debating doing that on the positive side on mine since I haven't got that cable put together yet and because it doesn't come off with the frequency the negative cable does.

Anyhow, Señor tool, since you're running one and I haven't installed mine yet, what is your impression with the 680 overall? My main reason for going with the Odyssey was that it's not an acid leaking POS like group 40's are, Optimas don't fit very well, and It's a bit smaller and lighter which never hurts. I went with the 925 because it matches the electrical specs for a group 40/41 battery a bit closer and since I'm fond of my electrically operated creature comforts, I figured it might not hurt to have a little more battery capacity on tap than a 680.

It is a very good product that has been more than capable of starting my 951 (with its8:1 compression) from cold in 10 degree temperatures.
You just have to make sure you get a good connection or it will make a dummy out of you.

Yes - as follows:

-cut .33 inch from STARBOARD side cleat
-remove port side cleat and flip it 180 degrees CLOCKWISE - port/starboard
-install 680 laying flat (lowering c/g even further) with positive to starboard/fore
-tighten port side cleat against body of battery.
