Default New MAFs are in!!!

We got a source for the MAF, we received the first shipment today. They work great, already tested them. Many new features... plug-and-play with software...

John,

What is the difference in the new MAF vs. the old MAF? Design, performance, price, etc?

Thanks

Blueman33, The new MAF is different is shape 3" in/out, uses a different sensor than the old MAF and has a builtin Air Temp Sensor. I'm not sure if there is any performance gain over the old MAF, as the only way to do this is by back-toback testing on the dyno. For now the prices remain the same...

Is the air temp for gauge use or does it send a signal to the dme?

TurboX, you are still on probation LOL.. The Air Temp Sensor is used by the DME.

How does the Dme (guessing you need your chips with the MAF) use the air temp to change fuel ratio or what does it change when air is coming in hotter or colder?

You know you love me

TurboX, the stock air meter has a temp sensor too, in case you didnt know that.

It would ideally effect fuel and spark, but I will let John chime in here since I am not certain it effects both in the 951. (stock or vitesse maf chips)

The stock AFM does have the IAT (Intake Air Temp) which is used by the DME as the AFM does not compensate for change in temps on its own. The MAF does compensate for change in temps so tye IAT is not needed most of the time, just under certain conditions. A properly tuned MAF chip will account for it, so no continuous tuning is needed.. People that use a signal massager to convert the MAF signal to AFM signal, and use the AFM chips will have to retune everytime the temp changes.. Too hot or too cold and the car is not happy when using a MAF with AFM chips.

Yep, winter, spring, summer and fall adjustments with the Huntley chips and ARC2 that I once used, but we now have a better option with Vitesse.
