Ok, took a look at lunch.

I dont think my car has its CV still..
I looked into the gap in the manifold between the last and second to last inlet primarys..
all i saw was some lines and a Stock-ish looking Y-Splitter probably for vac lines..

My best guess is that its gone, they previous owner had a diagram that he drew when he installed it I will take a look at that and see what turns up.

Just look towards the back of the engine and if it's still there you'll see a small brownish cylinder partially hidden by the manifold. There should be a wiring harness and maybe 3 small hoses coming out of it (if I remember correctly).

For an answer to your original question have look at this post.

Why the lag? .

It pretty much covers the various trade offs and compromises made in the design of the 951 as far as boost threshold/lag and some ideas on what to do to optimise it, basically what the guys have said on this thread.

 yeah the CV is definatly gone.

It was removed and my MBC was put in its place

The previous owner of the car was pretty good about documenting anything he installed.

he drew one picture with the CV, and 3 lines.. and then the one right next to it! No CV, but boost controller..

Do i need/want the cv back?

Thanks for the additional info mildmax! I will read through it today. Its looking like i need a wastegate

Things to improve spool up:
delete cat
get a good wastegate
get a good EBC
get some good chips

I noticed a huge improvement with removing the cat. If you need one for emissions, I'd recommend some kind of exhaust where you can swap it in/out easily. My EBC (Blitz SBC) made a noticeable improvement in spool up over the MBC that was on the car (already had LR dual port wastegate). Those two things made the most noticeable difference in how fast/hard the turbo spools. The chips also helped, but don't make nearly as big a difference (and I tried both Guru and Vitesse).

This is not a helpfull response (sorry) but my early turbo with the smaller 26/6 turbo, no cat as standard and only a boost enhancer used to make boost imediately when it was hot. If you drove it hard for 5mins or so it would sit only just in vacume at idle and then hit positive pressure at a tap of the throttle, it used to really 'come on boost' fully at about 2000-2500rpm but was very positive!!
