Stephen, this is what he mentioned - I will ask him if he knows or has any dyno charts that show the difference between the two.

I believe Danno has some contribution to offer to the NA cam in the 951... maybe he will chime in.

Pauer, it woud be sweet to have some dyno info on it!

NZ-
I think he claimed to have a 944R cam, whatever that is. At least that's what I remember from his sig, it may have been a NA cam.

I'm not an expert with cams, but one thing I've noticed is the stock 951 cam duration is pretty low compared to most other more modern turbocharged 4cyl cars I've seen. I believe it's 228 intake 220 exhaust? Most of the other cars I've seen are more in the 234-248 range, and those stock cams are less than ideal. Anyone have any experience using cams around 250-260 duration in these motors? Seems to me like keeping the stock lift and getting a longer duration cam would be quite beneficial for the top-end like Special Tool was saying.

Yeah he noted it was an "R" cam, from an NA IIRC. I have no idea what the "R" indicates, if anything!

According to the link to Danno's cam .pdf posted above, the 944.105.155.9R cam has even LESS duration than the regular turbo cam... 223 intake, 215 exhaust. Also, the centers are 220 degrees apart instead of 228. Lift is the familar 12mm intake/ 11mm exhaust.

I think its wishful thinking that someone can just put in a different cam and be happy that it matches the cars desired characteristics. It would be nice if the NA cam was a great upgrade as it would be really cheap, but I think for $650 at JME, you would be mucho happier.

According to factory workshop manual 951 uses n/a cam used between 82-85. They changed the cam profile for 85 1/2 models

Olli, thats right.

944.105.155.05 CAMSHAFT for 1983-85/1 944 and 1986-88 944 Turbo
944.105.155.09 CAMSHAFT for 1986-88 944 / 924S
Its just easier to call one the turbo cam and one the NA cam. I guess we could call it the "late" NA cam. But in essence, when they developed the turbo, they took the cam right out of the existing NA cars. But the 85.5 update to the NA cars included a slightly revised cam that did put out some more grunt (in NA form).
