Hey all,

Well last night I went to the street legal drags at the track with some friends. I saw the most beautiful 996tt. Unfortunately the owner was a Real Jerk. Anyways to make a long story short, his friend said " This is the only 10 sec. 996tt in the world." He ran a 10.7, does anybody know about his car? It was black with the word "AKURAAT" all on the side, lots of sponsers etc.

I doubt its the only 10 second 996TT in the world. The 996 guys may know more about it, or TonyG may since thats his play ground.

Gemballa Evo here runs <9.5s on the local drag strip. Heck i was there when it happened, got a magazine copy of the car as well.

That was probably one of the three Akkurat cars featured in the 996TT Tuner Shootout. Excellence Magazine posted all the results in a past issue (Dec/Jan issue maybe?). The owner is probably Alex "Sharky" Ross. He posts over in the 996 Turbo forum under user name "sharkster."

IF he actually claimed to have the fastest 996tt in the world and only ran high 10s, he's an idiot. Fast car for sure. but an idiot.

HEy all, Well I didn't say anyhting after he told me that, i just laughed to myself and walked away. Yes, that car pictured looks just like his, it's beautiful to see in real life. So that's interesting, I guess he was just taking advantage of the fact that he thought, this is a kid, he'll believe me lol.

Well, it is POSSIBLE, isn't it? That car is street legal - catylist and all. Probably full interior, emmisions compliant, etc.

If the fastest 996TT in the world runs high 10's, its a sad day for 4WD 911 turbo's.

Yes, I didn't hang out there much, but I did look inside. He was messing with the fuel management, but it had the full dashboard heating/air etc. and both seats etc. I think it even had current registration on the liscence plate.

Yes - this is my point. My car is viciously fast - but it ain't anywhere near street legal. It would take me 2 days work to make it absolutely street legal.

IIRC, Sharky doesn't always drive the car. So the driver might not of been the same guy as the owner.

Eddie Bello was running high 8's at one point in his 993- not street legal by then, &, we are talking about a 996TT, although the 996TT's didn't seem to be as fast as 993TT's... anyway... Eddie's car was featured in all kinds of mags- was RWD- someone here mentioned AWD- doesn't really matter- the front end should be lifting by the time you crack into the 9's- Eddie Bello actually cracked into the 8's on STREET tires- was running Nittos- I remember he ran some INSANE tire pressure too- it was like 9psi at start & was up to 38psi or so by the end of 1/4,.... it was in one of the mags, but, it's been awhile, so, don't quote those #'s.... BTW- he ALSO did wheelies in 3rd gear.... AWD doesn't matter at that point.... judging by the way a friend's 997 Carrera S accelerates, it's amazing that w/that rear engine, the car's dont lift the front wheels by the time they hit the mid 11's IMO....
