Question top end rebuild

Hi, all

In my ongoing(and, sadly, long) quest for 951 I have two questions:

What is the difference between top end rebuild and complete rebuild. What doesn't get rebuilt in top end rebuild? (just don't say bottom end , a little more details please). When top end rebuild is enough and when a complete one is required?

Also, is difference between 951S and 951 engine is just bigger turbo or engine itself is a little different, reinforced or something?

thanks in advance

Alex

Alex~
A top end rebuild will include having the head worked, doing belts, rollers, lifters, seals, and the typical wear items above the block. A total rebuild will go a step further and include rings, bearings, and the time to haver a machine shop go over everything in the engine.

A top end rebuild is done when the timing belt goes, bad lifter noise, low compression, etc. A full rebuild is done when a car starts to get up there in mileage, or it spins a bearing.

I am not sure about the diff. between a 951 and 951s motor, the do have a bigger turbo, but past that?
