My 86 w 226k on the block seized up, but I had noticed the power was waning for a few thousand miles before it happened. I bought a used motor rather than rebuild the old one because it was much less expensive. oddly the old motor had no leaks right up to the end. the use motor has been in for a few months and I can really feel the difference in power but it has a few oil leaks even though I replaced the pan gasket and rear main seal.

If you are thinking of a rebuild, the lesson I learned is that it will be a whole lot cheaper to do it before something catastrophic goes wrong.

Mileage on these cars is pretty much a non-issue if they're properly cared for. There's a 951 out there somewhere with over 350K on the clock - original engine, no rebuild. Mine is coming up on 200K quickly and runs like a dream and still goes like a raped ape. I guess it could use a new ISV, but other than that it's great. Original engine / trans. too - just not original turbocharger.

My last 951 had 178k on it and it needed piston rings. Compression was about 125 psi across the board.

I'm a rookie. 136k so far which includes a re-ring job, blown head gasket and an engine fire within the first 6 months of ownership.

Over 215k miles. Currently replacing the turbo which sucked in a little rock or something. And a bunch of other items at the same time. Compression was around 140PSI a year ago, gotta see what it is now after discovery of cyl wall damage.

My '86 951 now has 194k miles on it. Amazingly enough, I put 35k miles on it in the last 7-8 months! I just recently dyno'd 222rwhp and 256rwtq w/ Guru v8 chips and a EBC running 1bar (everything else stock), which I think are pretty decent numbers considering the mileage and my AFR's were below 10:1 after 5k rpm. I'm planning on rebuilding my engine soon, not because I need to but I'd like everything to be in new condition and for preventative maintenance reasons.
