Eventually going A/C delete (soon hopefully!), but I was curious *how* bad of an idea it would be to try and find a belt just big enough to snap around crank and alternator in it's stock location...so it would be a lil loose once in place...but maybe good enough?
...I just really hate my ac compressor

Chas: My NA gave my problems with the a/c compressor, same with the power steering pump.
I believe i used a Toyota belt for the power steering and a Mazda belt for the compressor and alternator.
The a/c compressor mounting hole was broken and i was forced to drive with the a/c compressor off the car for a week or so. A shorter Mazda belt was used for the crankshaft pully and the alternator.

Sorry, missed this one for a while.
David and Chas, it was a shorter belt taken from either a Mazda or a Toyota. This was 3 years ago, can't remember what brand belt and exact size.....as a matter of fact, we (the mechanic and i) just took off a belt on the shelf and it fitted nicely between the alternator and the crank pully, it was tight and a pain to install it, but it worked. Yes, it was tight enough, and drove it like that for a while untill i fixed the a/c compressor.

Just had to do this one - my a/c compressor froze up and burned up my belt (nice cloud of white smoke) - Napa belt 050336 (this is the 5 rib belt, they didn't have the 6 rib in stock this length) Was able to get it most of the way on by hand, then turned the engine about a quarter turn and it popped right on. Squeaked a little for a day or so, quiet and fine for the last couple of weeks.
