951 is changing my driving habits
I've been driving a BMW 525i slushbox for a couple of years. I originally bought it as a "temporary" replacement for my 928 but things happen and it's been around a while longer than I planned. Nice car but sloooooooow.
So I'm normally a fast driver, I like cruising at 80mph in the fast lane and with the BMW it's "look for upcoming openings, start accelerating, when the gap arrives move over carefully." Eventually I'm up to speed and in my lane of choice.
I don't have to do that any more. Now it's "there's a gap to my left, car coming up fast, NAIL IT, whoooosh!!" and suddenly I'm in the left lane and seriously endangering my license. I like it!!!
ps - anyone want to buy a 1990 BMW 525i? 207k but all maintenance done and a nice solid car, first $4500 takes it.

I've always had low-powered "handling" cars - string of 914s, Rx7s, even my 911SC was no terror in a straight line. The 928 had some grunt but was still outrun by my neighbor's Camaro.
This 951 is the fastest car I've ever owned and it's a riot. I will pass you NOW. I like that I can outrun my buddies' 996 with ease, and that Camaro is just a pretender now. I will dyno it soon, just to get a baseline and start tuning but I expect I'm putting down around 300rwhp. Can't imagine what 438 feels like!

Oh, you mean like how if I need to, I can cut 6mins off my 20min drive to work.
*disclaimer* I do this at 6am so there is very little traffic on the roads and it helps if your father-in-law is highway patrol.

I know exactly how you feel -- I'm constantly bothered by the fact that it feels too stable at 80mph. I feel like I need to be going faster just so it feels right!

youd be even more surprised at how stable it feels at 160. these cars suck themselves to the ground like nobody's business. in fact, on my car, its least stable at ~120, then stiffens up again.
not that i recommend going that fast. i used spotters, a co-pilot in contact with the spotters, and a VERY empty brand new straight-line highway. only problem i had was that at that speed the rear wiper popped up and broke off the little plastic cover that sits over the 10mm nut.

LOLOL...you're all like my dad. After we put the Koni's in all around we took it out for a drive. After 30 miles or so to make sure it was all settled and whatnot my dad started going a little bit faster. Out in Skagit Valley there are long straight 2 lane roads with NO traffic at night. My dad has it at~120. Turns to me and says "It tracks pretty good doesn't it?" I just started laughing.
Brian-you scared me at the Front Engine Fest. We were right behind you and you dropped a wheel in the dirt. We weren't goin all that fast, but I turned and saw that big, deep valley we were running next to. Good times.

Mark,
I soooo know what your talking about. The car's size, stance, and turbo make QUICK work of traffic. These cars are absolutely effortless to get to 100+ mph.
I too am interested in your mods, it's my next step.

Since the 951- my driving habits are forever altered. I just hope it doesn't kill me. Once you upgrade the driver and get DE and racing school hours down. The ownership experience becomes sublime...
