I'm looking at temporary stereo upgrades until I can get some 968 panels with bigger speaker mounts, so for now, has anyone fit these in their doors? I can't for the life of me remember which 4x6 plates I had in my previous car, but I know I did it and I WANT to say it was these... looking for confirmation.
The stereo FAQ says mounting depth can be up to 1 5/8". These speakers show 1 15/16", but I think they still might fit, if anything with a few mm washer spacers or something.
Make: Infinity
Model: REF6402CFP
Mounting Depth: 1 15/16"
Link: Cardomain has these on sale for a very attractive $56.95 >here<

I am decking my car out in Infinity at the moment. Got 6.5 components is the rear and 5.25 components under the arm rest and looked at these 4x6 but they dont come with a grill, so I was unsure on their fitment with the stock grills... I dont think know about mounting depth. Buy them and if they dont fit in the front, put them in the rear. Then tell me.

Here are some Clarion 4x6 plates with a 1.6" mounting depth 1 3/5". Anyone try these? They should fit...

If you are not too concerned about the door panel I would skip the plates and find a way to mount a 5 1/4 round speaker in there, or at least a good full 4x6" like an Eclipse. If all you have are 4x6 plate speakers you just do not have enough cone area. Get some MDF and cut out a spacer for a larger, deeper speaker. The little 4x6" speakers are too small and too far off axis in the 944 doors. I would go with 5 1/4" separates in the door with the tweeter mounted up higher (but not as high as the ones in the 10-speaker setup.)

well, this is really just a temp solution until I can get some black 968 10-speaker door panels (holding my breath, right?) so it has to be simple and has to sound decent. I think I'm going to go with these that I had forgotten about....
Others on here have said they do fit and you can use the stock grills even, and I know these will sound good, probably better than the Infinity Kappas that I used to have.

I have installed Alpine SPS-4629P 4x6 plates in my 951 two years ago. The depth is 44 mm or 1 1/2". The stock covers sit about a 1/4 off the door panel, but one does not notice it.

They sound good, but if I had to do it again I would go with something with a cleaner fit- I still screwed in the speaker cover, but it sits 1/4 of an inch above the door panel (looks like ***)
Plus, the speakers have HUGE soldering issues... I've had to resolder all 4 of them
