By far the best response. Any opinions on the Borla intercooled tips, or Magnaflow's resonated tips? Would that change the nature of the sound any?

Have you considered the Dynatech cone pipe inserts? Basically a stainless steel mesh cone that goes in the end of your pipe. Last ones i bought were in the $50 range. Work well and easy to remove if you need to. Car Chemistry also makes a baffel system that slips in the end of your pipe. Both clim no hp lose because of construction. The CC is a little tricky to fit depending on the length of stright pipe and th end of the muffler. The CC's come in a 2 and 3 disk design. Last i knew they were in the $50 range as well. My choice would be the Dynatech. Easy to install, stainless steel and almost impossible to see. Most higher end race shops or online retailers for preformance cars will have them. I dynoed with a Dynatech and made no difference on HP but it up the TQ by 2 pounds. So no change other than to break the harsh edge of the noise level. Most race tracks will let you run open exhaust with either in and consider it a muffler as it really helps on the low and mid range end.

I thought the CC inserts were most effective
if fitted in place of the cat or after the cat.
That CC inserts intrests me but not sure how
much back pressure it would create. For sure
it's far more effective than a resonator.
Anyone have direct experience with it ?

While I can't deny intercooled tips are fun and resonated tips sound interesting, I've usually found chocolate and jewelry to be more effective.

But that cuts in on the car budget!

So are the pipe inserts similar to a Supertrapp?

Tony G welded a couple borla xr1 mufflers in his system ( 3, I think). They are straight through mufflers with very low back pressure.

I'm in the same boat, and so far have been unsuccessful.

I started out with a Bursch test pipe and a stock cat back. It sounded really good, the cool thing was at low RPM I could hear the turbo. Then I bought a stainless GHL cat back w/ no muffler. A lot of people said, the turbo will be enough to quiet it down. They were wrong it sounded like an '88 Mazda B2000 with a racing strip and side pipes.

I pulled it all off and went back to what I had. Then I bought another 951 (which was a mistake). It had a stock exhaust. I did some measuring and ordered a 3" stainless Magnaflow Part num 14219 5x8x14 oval to fit in place of the GHL muffler delete pipe. I installed it on the car with the stock cat pipe in place, which resulted in the best sound. It was music to my ears. I couldn’t live knowing I had a squashed up stock cat pipe so I ordered an SFR 3” stainless test pipe. I put it on and noise level went through the roof.

Then I bought the SFR resonator, which barely did anything. It took some of the bite out of the exhaust but it’s still to loud.

If I could weld, this would be no biggy, my next move is to either try something else in the resonator spot or try to install a larger muffler.

I have one of Dynatech cone inserts for sale $25 shipped, did not do much for me.

I found a Dynomax 4" round muffler that fit in the removable cat area on the SFR setup and got the sound level where I wanted with the 2 mufflers, much better around town but still a beast under power

I will dig up the part number and specs later today.

It clamped right in where the removable straight pipe cat section is on my SFR.

It is not stainless, I was just looking for something to work, this did and it's cheap.

$36.95 from www.summitracing.com

DynoMax part# WLK-24219
4" round bullet 23 1/4 " long 3"in/out

I did have a local welding shop make me flange so it mounts just like the straight removable section on the SFR, so they can be swapped out if I want.

This brought the sound down to a more suitable level for around town, but still very agressive under boost.

David, that looks almost identical in size to my SFR resonator, what are the dimensions of your rear muffin?
