Default Where do you dump your coolant?

Well I have a bunch of coolant sitting around from when I changed it out, and I'm not going to dump it down the storm drain. Is there some place I can bring this stuff?

Some land fills have hazardous waste days where you can bring it and they will recylce it.

Here in Houston we have a city recyling center.
Might also call a full service gas station. I'll bet they have a provision for disposal. Might cost you a couple of bucks, but it's worth it to do it right.

I read somewhere authoritative that you can just dump it in the toilet if you are connected to a waste treatment plant. Their normal treatment process breaks it down.

Someone better tell me if I'm wrong as that is what I do with it.

I put it in Eyal 951's car so it makes a nice milkshake, then recycle it as oil.

When I lived in CA I could take coolant and oil to some (or all?) service stations and parts places for disposal. As noted above, your city or town should have household hazardous waste days where you can take it in for disposal.

I'm lucky, can take my used coolant and oil down to the dump and plop it into the recycling tank there.

Take it to the track. All tracks have recycle drums for oil, coolant, brake fluid etc.

I think some autozones will take it. We used to have a "City" claim centers you could drop them off at.

You can try bringing it to a independent mechanic or a pepboys/autobarn or something. Some will take whatever you have (used oil, antifreeze...etc) and charge you a recycling fee i believe. If you cant find anything like that, do as others suggested and look for a recycling center in your area. My town has one about 15 minutes from me. They have 6 or so domes where you dump the oil into. Also facilities for oil filters and im pretty sure antifreeze as well. I believe the EPA website has a list of places by state and city of where you can bring these materials.

Read the back of the bottle that coolant comes in. Most, as Iceshark stated, tell you to dump it down the drain if you are connected to a treatment facility. Make sure you are not on a septic system, and never dump it in a storm drain.

From a Civil Engineer, that small portion of coolant will do nothing to a treatment facility.

Good, I thought this was correct from an unrelated job I did with the local Waste Commission.
