Same here last year in my chipped 270hp '86.

The driver of the F355 wasn't impressed, however my female passanger was.

Kees: Mine was fully stock then

That driver was more likely shocked that you kept up, hence his facial expression of being "not impressed"

Not what you asked for but the 944 S2 would be a better comparison, IMHO. R&T (2-89) data for S2.

6.4 sec 0-60, 14.8 1/4 mile, 225' braking from 80mph, skidpad n/a...but it should be similar to 951 @.89g

328GTS performance numbers are all a little less. 328 GTS was $78K new vs. $45K, U.S.D.

Performace/Everyday Use= Porsche
Style/Sex Appeal = Ferrari

There's a comparison test between the 328 and 951S in pdf on Danno's website.

I am very biased when it comes to the 944 series....we all are!! But I'll tell you...the 328 handles great, is pretty quick and is/was a BLAST to drive. My father has had a 308, 328, 348, and his current 355 F1.

The 348 could walk all over my car in it's current setup. Handling AND performance! The 328....well that is a better comparison IMHO. I would say the cars are close. In stock form, I bet the 328 would edge it out.

I'm not biased. Simply stating what happened. I couldn't care less if my 19 year old car could keep up with a much newer car or not. Especially when I was just attempting to stay close to hear the glorious exhaust note.

Interesting to read your experiences though. They are more relevant than any one-off street encounters.

The 328 Gts only has 213 lb/ft of torque from the specs I saw, whereas the 951S has 258 lb/ft of torque, and it should all be lower in the powerband than the 328. Also, I believe the 328 Gts is rated at 260hp, though 270hp might be the European version. IMO, a 10hp peak difference doesn't make up for a 45lb/ft of torque deficiency when you have 2 identical weight cars.

I have a video clip of a 348 behind me lap after ap on the track. To say the guy was surprised was an understatment. BUT it did sound fantastic, and if i had the choice the Porker would be dropped in an instance.

Mine is not standard however...

Hi there, I own a 951 S and a 308 QV. The 951 does a lot of things better than the Ferrari, but then vice versa, the 308 does things the 951 could only dream of doing.....like make a car load of hotties wave and blow kisses at me, that ruled! Anyway, the cars are totally different. The 951 is faster in acceleration and top gear acceleration. The Ferrari sounds incredible (I have a Tubi stainless system), the Ferrari has looks that kill, and is a timeless design...as does the 944. I use the Porsche for daily transport, albeit exciting daily transport. I use the Ferrari on sunny days for ****s and giggles. The Ferrari is not blindingly fast like the 951, but it is a FAST CAR! The 328 has 30 more horsepower than my 308 QV, but it still cannot hold a candle to the power of the 951. However, I have done some performance mods to the Porsche, and I've only done a Tubi and a K&N on the Ferrari. I've owned the Ferrari going on 4 years, and I just got the 951 back in August. Its a love affair with them both. I'll never sell either of them, they are like my family ( I know that sounds strange!)

Gear ratios can make up for torque differences very easily though.

I have owned 328's 348 and 355's and only the 355 can really take the sting out of a fit 951s
with a bit of work the 951 can keep up with a stock 355. But you will always pull more babes at the sign of the prancing horse!!!! End of argument really!!!

Talking

I got this call one day at work, it was the mechanic that works on my car...."you have to come down and check out this ride". Not knowing what he was talking about I hopped in my car and stopped by his shop. Sitting in front of the door was an F348. I drooled as I walked around it. He came out of the shop to greet me " Not that thing". He wanted me to see a silver 944 turbo they had been working on. "Lets go for a spin...this is the fastest car I have ever been in". It was a Power Haus equiped 944t with about 400 horses. Nobody at the shop could care less about the F348.
