Default Feeler: Be Cool! GROUP BUY IS ON!

PURPOSE: Group buy feeler.

HISTORY: Porsche OE radiator is marginal at best. It has plastic end tanks that are crimped onto the center tube section. When the gasket fails (approx 60,000 miles +/-) you get coolant leakage. Plastic is also a poor thermal conductor.

SOLUTION: Install a custom made all aluminum, welded radiator. Better performance, increased service life, long term savings.

CONCLUSION: I have contacted Griffin Thermal Porducts (www.griffinrad.com). They are a true manufacturer with complete engineering on staff and a 120,000 sf facility in South Carolina. They manufacture individual custom radiators, racing radiators for Winston Cup, large industrial heat exchangers, to full production run OE replacements.

I have done my homework and no other radiator available will surpass the Griffin product. The $480 Factory part is plastic. The $250 E-Bay radiator is just components that someone buys off the shelf and assembles. It uses brass fittings that will cause electrolysis and premature failure. It also has no warranty.

I sent my OE radiator to Griffin and they are willing to make a direct bolt-in replacement all aluminum radiator. This radiator should be approx 15-20% more efficent in heat rejection than the OE radiator. It will also last longer. Griffin incorporates a unique manufacturing step to assure long life. Each radiator is reinforced with a special high temperature epoxy. This adds tube to header strength, prevents vibration failure, increases corrosion resistance and gives an extra level of leak protection. This process is Q1 approved by Ford Motor Company, one of the toughest standards in the industry. This radiator will carry a two year warranty.

GROUP BUY: The price for a single unit is $575. Five units will be $489 each. Ten units will be $365 each.

I do not install cr@p in my car, only to replace the part again later (or should I say sooner). So am going to order one of these for my car. Is anyone else interested? I will place my order on 3/18, so speak up!

Do I understand this to mean it will have a 15-20% increased cooling capacity? I have been wondering if the stock rad will be able to handle a 3.0 turbo, once I get the motor together. If this will add cooling capacity, then I am interested. Will it use all the factory mount locations? Will it be stealth or NASCAR in appearance?

You know it all honesty, as much as everyone complains about the rads, IMHO theyre not that bad. Mine lasted over 200k miles and 19 years and change.

Only reason I see to replace it is more cooling capacity needed because of mods... And stock rads are $300 at Paragon and IIRC $250 sometimes.

I would interested, but probably only at the lower price point. I am not in need of a new radiator to the best of my knowledge, but cooling is always a concern with these cars.

If we get to 10 people, I'm in.

Thanks for the legwork on this one Bill. Griffin does have a very good reputation.

I'm also in if there are 10 or more people....I don't really need a new radiator, but ccooler temps are always a plus.

Bill,
Can you hold off from ordering till we can get 10 units. I'm definitely in but let's try to get 10 units. I think it's worth the wait.

One more and we can all get this "too cool" product for the exceptional price of $365 each.

cas951 - With as close as we are, yes I can wait for 10. Since I wont be able to drive my car until I get a new radiator......PLEASE can we have one more step up to the plate!

Tom M'Guinn - Yes. According to the Griffin engineer, the all aluminum radiator should provide approx 15 - 20% better cooling over the stock radiator. In my mind a must for modded cars that produce more HP and thus more heat. Yes the Griffin rad will be a direct bolt-in replacement. That is why I sent my stock turbo radiator to Griffin, so they can duplicate the mounts/dimensions exactly. This brings up a point, I looked in the PET and it appears that the NA radiator is a different part number than the turbo radiator. So if they are different, Griffin only has a turbo radiator to match. And lastly, I do not know what a NASCAR radiator looks like, but the one I have been discussing will be all aluminum, no black paint. You will not be able to see the radiator from the front as the AC condensor and inter-cooler are in front of it. And in the engine compartment the fans cover the rear.

Ski - Since I have never chaired a group buy, how do I contact John D to ask permission?

Ok, ten!

I have just sent John D a PM, asking for his blessings on this group buy.

Anyone else that is on the fence, this deal is too good to pass-up, get in on it! I can't guarantee it will be there after this purchase.

I have not set this up yet with Griffin. I am waiting for a blessing from John D before I do this.
