My CV just popped out today in the parking lot of my workplace. All 6 bolts were in place, but i have no idea how this happened.
One bolt has the threads chewed up a bit, i was able to get 5 bolts tight enough to limp back home (used a hex key).
Just how common is it that the CV pops out like this?

Special: I don't understand, are you saying there is a tightening sequence (like the cylinder head and balance shaft covers?)
Mike: The last time the CV's were out was when the PO replaced one (broken) and "serviced" the rest 1 year ago. When i get the right tool, i am planning on cleaning all the grease off the bolts and the diff area and have some thread sealer as an "extra safety" thing.

Tighten one bolt to about 20lb-ft, tighten the opposite one to full torque, then go back to the one beside the first, go full torque and move on to the one across from that one... then when you're done, tighten the first one to full torque. That's really the best way to get the axles on there with uniform torque. I haven't had any cars have problems with their CV bolts loosening after this.
Once again like special tool said, make sure the threads get in there clean. Wipe off the two faces before mating the CVs to their respective surfaces, and make sure the grease isn't everywhere when you slide it on, or you might cover a hole in grease. Also, if the bolts aren't new replacements, spray them off with brake cleaner to remove the grease. It all sounds tedious... but it really is necessary if you want to ensure bolts staying put. If you continue to have problems, but a small dab of blue (medium) Loctite on them.

OK, I just read every post on this thread. You guys make me afraid to let me car run. I wonder why I haven't boken anythng, ever! Now I feel jinxed. Does anyone have any clue why I haven't broken anything? Cause I sometimes get on my car pretty hard. I'm sure most of you have read some of my crazy stories of kicking *** out on the streets. This thread makes me want to call Powerhaus and see what they did differently if anything and why my car is ok. I don't launch from a dead stop though. I just give eveyone a head start and tell them I won't get on it till second, but even then if I get over anxious, I'm spinning all the way through third. On top of that, when I do get on it, the power comes on so hard in second, I sometimes get some major wheel hop. Does anyone know if Powerhaus uses something different than stock?

I'm following this thread closely too, I hope to be over 400rwhp by this time next year.
Yal'll remember the yellow MoTeC 968 that was in excellence a while back? The owner and I were having coffee one time and he told me about having the same problem. The car made so much torque that it sheared off the CV joints. IMHO this isn't about not tightening them down properly, it's about simply not having enough strength, period. I don't know the specifics of what Kelly Moss did to fix it, but I remember hearing the car has an "Audi Racing Gearbox" or something.. so I'm sure the CVs are upgraded too...
Maybe if I can find his phone number somewhere he might let me crawl under there and spy a peek.
