Default HELP - Dead Battery

Hello All!

Well, yet another problem for my 951. Something is draining the battery and I can't figure out what it is. I'm not leaving the lights on, or the door open, or anything foolish like that. Something somewhere isn't grounded right or something because I have my own trickel charger, and I can fully charge my battery, and it will only last for 2-3 days if I don't use the car. I have tried replacing the battery with a brand new unit, same problem.

Please oh please...... tell me someone know's what's causing this because its going to cost a fortune for my mechanic to figure this one out!

Thanks so much!

Any battery shop will test your battery and tell you if it's good or not.

one thing you might want to check is the turbo thermo switch...if the switch is bad it will keep the coolant pump on causing your battery to run down

Fans always running is more likely than the coolant pump always running (that is the temp. sensor for the pump)

I bet it is your radiator fan thermostat. They same thing happened to mine. Just run the car good and get it up to a high temp and then park it and see if you fans shut off. If they dont then pull your fan relay I think it number 10 the big one at the top right of the fuse box. Then you will need to check to see if it is the fan thermo or the relay. The whole thing takes about 1 hour. Your best bet is to take off your belly pans and go at it from under the car. Good luck.

I think he would have noticed if a fan or pump was running.

If it is a slow drain like you seem to imply it is I have read about a relay that makes our windows work after you turn the car off before the doors are opened. You can check that by running the car then shutting it down open the window a little then open your door and the windows should not work anymore if they do I think the problem usually turns out to be bad contact on the door switch.

If that is not the problem to find out what is causing it you need to get an amp probe loosen up one of your battery terminals and put one of the probes on the post and one of the probes on the terminal and pull the terminal off of the post without loosing contact with the amp probes. You can then monitor the amperage that is being drawn by the car and have somebody pull the fuses until you find which fuse cuts the draw on the battery then you will have an idea what is causing the problem.

Alrighty Folks,

Thanks for the many responces so far! I can tell you that the battery is 100% good for sure. I just bought it, and the same problem exists. Also, there are no fans, blowers, or motors that run after I shut the car off which could be causing this problem. Yes, my turbo fan runs after I turn off the motor, but never for more than 5 minutes.

Any other suggestions? (I'd really like to figure this out by the spring time)

An aftermarket alarm could also be the cause.

Connect a mutlimeter in line with the battery and check for a current draw when the car is "not"!!! running. Dont assume that just because the battery is new is must be OK? To drain a car battery all the way down in 2-3 day takes a rather large current draw say 2-4 amps. If the meter shows a current draw simply start pulling out fuses untill the draw goes away.
