Another simple place to check like Jaak said - I was getting a clunking vibration from the back under hard acceleration, figured cv's, exhaust hangers etc. Turned out to be the bolt that holds the spare to the well was loose letting the wheel bang against the well. Hope you get lucky like I did.

Your rear shocks may need replacement.

well......checked out the car and found the plate attached to the tranny is cracked ....is this seperate from the tranny and do i have to drop the tranny to replace it ?

I had the same problem with my '84 944. I replaced both CV axels and it resolved the vibration. The 2 axles cost $160 on Amazon. I did the work myself.
