I had impact tools when I was changing my turbo out and that made things a lot faster.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Ski - I've gotten the heat shield off of the motor mount and will be diving back in there tonight. The setup only had ~10K miles on it, so all of the bolts have broken free relatively (now there's an open minded term ) easily.

z3 - yep, got one of those already - works great.

Thanks again....

After the dive tonight...

Got the steering knucle off (boy, that's gonna be fun putting back on later...) and sized up the long Turbo mounting bolt.

Hmmm....seems like either some ham fisted gorilla got it to tighten up just as the bolt decided to become a 'more rounded' fastener, or there is a 6.5 mm hex head out there somewhere which will likely cost at least 4 times as much as the standard 6 or 7 mm hex head wrenches.

Gosh...this is really starting to be fun.

Guess I'm going to make a special tool tommorow night to remove the bolt holding on the Turbo exhaust line.

Not sure why you undid the steering knuckle? I did not find that necessary when removing my turbo. At the risk of over-plugging my write-up, I'll plug it anyway. http://members.rennlist.com/tom86951...ocharger_r.htm

Eyal, what turbo are you planning for the upgrade? Guru's?

Good luck Jay, that's the kind of stuff I pay to have done. My hat goes off to you.

Thanks Tom...actually, I had read your impressive write up earlier in the week as I found a reference to it in another thread that I found during a search on this topic. Very good reading.

Well, the special tool didn't work (I shortened an allen wrench), so.....

Guess I'll be thinkin' about this today for attack plans Saturday.
