Default "S" badge for my '89?

I was wondering if it would be blasphemy to label my '89 with "Turbo S" badge?

Thoughts?

Since it isn't an S model it wouldn't be correct.

In the U.S. all '89s were the "S" spec. (247hp, brembo breaks, MO30, LSD, etc.). You could not get a "base" 951 in '89 but Porsche decided to drop the "S" nomenclature.

Well, the 944 turbo S was produced in 1988 as well as the 220 hp version 951. In 1989-1991 the 951 was indeed similar to the 1988 S model but it was only called 944 turbo. So a base model 1989 951 was the same as the top 1989 951 model since there was only one 1989 951 model.

Nobody seems to debate the originality of a 968 spoiler on a 951, or vented nose panels, etc. Given the amount of unoriginal stuff most of us have on our cars, mostly in places that don't show, you can put an "RS" badge on if you want. Only a select few will ever know the difference, and many of those are here.

Considering that there is no such thing as a 968 spoiler (it came on the 951 in 1989 and has a 951 part number all the way to 1995) I think it is wierd to compare it to use badge engineering. Regarding the vented nose panels that is a custom thing that is pretty useless if running a stock 951 since it takes air from the front left fender. Some people think it looks cool however, I would be worried bout making the aerodynamics worse.

Hell, I have a Ferrari badge on mine. No one knows the difference

I kid, I kid.

Actually, I went to the RUF open house in Dallas and they had a RUF badge to purchase. Thought that might be cool to stick on the car. Of course, I couldn't find a "Type R" badge to excite the ricer croud.

None of the turbo S cars ever came with an "S" on the rear. That said, my friend and fellow rennlister Randy_J stole a silver "S" from a Boxster S and slapped it on behind the silver "turbo" on the back of his car. It tooks good, even though it is not original, and his car IS a real 88TurboS. (albiet not a silverrose...)

I've got a smaller turbo script and RS badges on th back of my car. I know there is no such thing as a 944 turbo RS. WHO CARES????

Something like that nobody cares about. When you place an American engine in a German car, people might get upset. Go for it if you like it!

Well, my car has better specs than the Turbo "S", but mine is an 86. But given the specs are better, can I make it an "SS"? Or maybe "SE"? lol

Do what you want, its not as much about originality as saying its something its not. I would not put an "S" badge on even though my cars specs are better for example.

My idiot PO installed a "turboS" badge. He had the engine rebuilt 45k after it was bought, (anyone hear the screaming of a bad t-belt), and then chipped it. Is it a good deal faste4r then a stock 951? Yep. Should it deserve an "S", nope. That said, who the hell should feel that they have a right to tell you what to do withn your car? Do you own an original 356? Then screw them. Do what you want. I'm building a 3.0 turbo, and it will only say "TURBO" if it says anything at all. Why tell them? Let them smell the smoke!

Andrew,

I'm really in a planning stage at this point. i'm getting the suspension in line via Chris White, and Paragon first. That will take place in the next two months. Leda coilovers, with a number of auxillary upgrade suspension parts. After that, I'm going to put together a final plan on the engine. I've talked to two of the big three on our board, (including the one you love...lol), and will be using a local tech for the build out. He's a guy that bought Technical Demensions from Albert Broadfoot, after working with him to build a number of race cars. That said, the bottom end will come from Chris White, with the new Darton MID wet sleeves. After that, it's all about my goals. They are to build a car that can compete, in terms of both performance, and luxury, with any current exotic.
I am an artist, so the interior will be my design, loosely based on the Tom Selleck 928, and installed by a local custom shop.(search Tom Selleck in the 928 board, and you'll see it.) After that, the black paint will become Porsche midnight blue metallic, with either Kineses wheels, or another semi blacked out center, of the same quality. I'm deleteing the back seat, I'll lighten the interior in general, including buying light, adjustable seats, then re-leathering them, as well as lightening the rest of the car where appropriate for my plan. The final goal is to meet the performance of the new F430. It makes roughly 112 per liter, and goes 0-60 in 3.5. That's the final goal. it weighs about 300+ lbs, without the driver. Anyway, sorry if this was a bit of hijack. That's my goal. No racing. Exotic is my goal. BTW the first time I rode in a 951 was the second car bought from Brumos in 1986. Ever since, this has been my goal....If I thought that the hood scoop on the LeMans car was beneficial, I'd be ALL OVER IT! I thought that and the Ferrari GTO were the two most beautiful cars of their time. E

ehall,

Just so you know, I was researching the 968 turbo thing, and a couple of guys who have done it said "that guy" gave out some misinformation on at least two occasions, specifically over using the 2.7 head and compression. You can search yourself.

There is a 968 engine I will be able to get my hands on, I am thinking of buying it, but I am not sure... its a massive project.
