Default Need help with a bolt. M12 x 1.5 x 120 qty -4 to hold engine to engine stand

Hello all... I am in need of locating 4 metric bolts. they are sized m12 x 1.5 pitch x 120 . I am needing these to bolt the engine to an engine stand. The original length bolt that holds the clutch housing onto the engine aren't long enough. i believe they are 95 or 100 mm long. i need an extra 20 or so mm so it will screw into the block. The problem is that the engine stand isn't mine, so I can't cut off the bolt sleeves. The bolt sleeves are exaclty the length of the bolts, so no threads are exposed and able to be screwed into the block. I have looked around locally at Home Depot, Lowe's and other places, but they all have either coarse thread or fine thread.....

For those of you who have pulled their engine and put it on a stand....what was your solution to this problem? Does anyone have these bolts laying around that I can purchase?

TIA

I looked at every hardware store and auto parts place I could find (including about 3 or 4 ACE stores). Everyone has M12 1.75, but no one had 1.5 pitch. I finally gave up and ordered the bolts from boltdepot.com.

If ACE fails you, you might want to check the fastner bins at your local NAPA Auto Parts Store. That's where I found mine.

I ordered mine at boltdepot as well - it's a strangely fine thread, can be difficult to find locally.

Or you could just get threaded rod and nuts and make your own. It seems that threaded rod in that size and pitch is always easy to get but the bolts aren’t. Don’t know why….I have been there several times!

Sure, if you want to be creative about it...

I actually took a set of 1.75 bolts and re-cut the threads before I ordered the correct bolts.... It was a bit ugly, but it held the motor until the right bolts arrived.... My tap and die set had the M12 x 1.5, go figure...

I'm using old VW Rabbit head bolts to hold mine to the stand. They're stretch bolts, one use only. I knew there was a reason I didn't throw them away. Do you have any friends that rebuild VW's? For that matter, the 944 head studs are the right thread, just a little long if you happen to have any extras.

Once you've become desperate and can't locate them anywhere you can use the bolts out of the lower control arm mounting points. That's what I had to do.

...or was it the rack bolts... Whatever I had both apart and found the right bolts from there.

I got mine from the Audi dealer (which is also the local Porsche dealer). I showed the bolt to the guy at the parts counter, he said some Audi car uses one that is similar and gave me 4 nice long bolts that worked.

I got mine as "samples" from the fastener supplier that stocks the manufacuring floor where I work. As TT said the dealer should have them, but they (maybe just the one neat me) are very expensive for just a bolt. I paid about $10 a bolt for the ones that hold the bell housing on. Check the yellow pages for any industrial fastener suppliers in your area. If there are non, ordering off the internet will be your best bet. I've never been able to fine the nuts or bolts I need for my car at any of the home improvment or hardware store chains.
