951 Project Update
It's been a big week for my 951 project..
1) Assembled the bottom end of the engine, using plenty of Black Molly Grease and the new bearings.
2) Ordered the front engine seal kit, balance shaft bearings, loctite, and all new hardware for the bottom end
3) Ringed the pistons and installed them
4) Found that the PO cut one of the oil lines to the oil cooler
To do this week:
1) (Hopefully) Torque down and loctite the bottom end with new hardware.
2) Clean oil pump, cooler, and other dirty parts
3) Install oil pump
4) Install Balance Shafts
5) Locate a shop to repair broken oil line, or source a new one.
Here are some pictures of the final product. If anyone wants to the complete set, PM me.

Swing by any time you want to have a look. What's going on with our Northern VA meet?
Dan~
I had the old ones cleaned up with new rings, My machine shop said the pistons were in great shape.

My machine shop (who has worked for a major Northern VA 951 tuner) told me to go ahead with his hone process. Do you have some information about the above comment because I would much rather address it now, then when I have a problem.
Thanks,

Here is one link I found and I am sure if you do some more digging you could find more.

If the decision is made to hone, in my case it had to happen, the process is different than other cars, and only a shop specializing in these cars can do it. The process includes silicone impregnating the walls while honing. Here's a shot of my cylinder after honing. Yours looks really coarse in comparison. Search rennlist and the net before reassembly.

I need to thank everyone who provided me with the info about the honing process on the 944 engines. If I have learned one thing from this whole ordeal, it is that no matter what someone tells you about a shop ALLWAYS do your homework first!
It looks like Sunday will be dedicated to the re-tear down of my motor, at that point I will start to consider my options, a new block is looking good at this point.
Huge thanks to Fast44, Taman, and Flight_951.. I owe you guys a couple of rounds, if you all didn't speak up I would have bolted the head on this afternoon.

Oh no you're kidding Eric....
Thats ridiculous. Did you ask your machine shop if they even knew of the correct process?

I don't want to sound stupid, but did you clean the oil galarries in the block?
Also, you made sure the rings were installed correctly, not upside-down since some people did that
