2nd generation car 95-99 i believe, 1st generation was 90-94. i don't have any exp with the 2g, but there are too many instances of crank walk for me to ever consider purchasing one. 1gs are the way to go if you wanna get some good hps without motor problems or swapping motors.

1G and 2G will hold 400hp on the stock block, but the 2G won't do it for long, as the crank ends up traveling to the other side of the motor... I helped a friend of mine when i was first learning about cars put a 1G motor into a 2G that crank walked...

Tell him to get a real car. Tell him to stop fooling around and buy a 951. Then not only is it fast, but you get everything else with it.

^ uh yeah, their cars go faster for cheaper and are more reliable.

granted they won't handle as well (etc.) but it all depends on what kind of racing he's into.

I've owned a half dozen Talons/Eclipses and they're only faster in a straight line. They aren't any more reliable than a 951, both have known trouble points, but DSMs are much cheaper when they break.

Using only 93 octane I put down ~375awhp and ran 11.9's in full street trim. It's doable and the recipe is pretty straight forward.

Yes they go straight but can they turn and stop? I thought I would try to get under someones skin here.

My 1997 Eagle Talon's mods

You don't need everything I had. Here's the highlights:
  • HKS 272 intake cam, 272 exhaust cam - DO NOT BUY ANY OTHER MANUFACTURER'S CAMS, they are all crap. HKS is the ONLY cam choice.
  • Large ball bearing turbo. I had a "GT12" from www.slowboyracing.com
  • 3" exhaust from the turbo to the tailpipe
  • Good engine management, either AEM EMS or www.dsmlink.com
  • Large injectors, preferrably between 720cc/min and 850cc/min, and a big fuel pump.
  • Stock cylinder head (no porting, multi-angle valve job, etc.)
  • Stock bottom end (stock pistons, rods, etc.) I did everything on a stock 1990 longblock motor I bought from a junkyard for $550. 1990-1992.5 motors were by far stronger (bigger rods) but motors from every year have been pushed past 400whp.
  • Stock exhaust manifold, ported.
  • Magnus intake manifold. This thing is pure sex for horsepower; my car pulled like a freight train after I installed it. www.magnusmotorsports.com
  • Large intercooler and 2.5" intercooler piping, www.dejontool.com or www.buschurracing.com, and a good blow off valve.
  • Beefy clutch.
I have pictures but I'm fighting with my server at the moment. I'll post 'em later.

Turn, no. That's why I bought a 951.

Stop, not bad. The 1992.5+ AWD cars came with decent twin piston front calipers with good stopping power.

But there is NOTHING like launching an all wheel drive turbo from a stop light: 5500-6000+ rpm tire squealing good time. Their 60' time and even 0-to-60mph is damn near untouchable on the street. Top end suffers from powertrain losses but it's all a tradeoff.

There is one member in here who had one that ran 9's. I believe his best ET was 9.47. I hope he posts in here and shares his video. I might still have it... it shows him run a 9.51 Go figure.

on the street, i would sacrafice handling for hp's any day. imho talons/eclipses are much more reliable than 951's when driven in the same manner.

AEM WideBand O2. Overall a nice unit though it doesn't display air/fuel ratios as low as I'd prefer. I can't remember, but I think it's anything under 12.0:1 is represented with a "--". For tuning a turbocharged vehicle seeing 11.0-11.9:1 is very useful.

My DSM went through more transfer cases than I care to think about. It was broken virtually every time I drove it. That said, I do miss the car once in a while, nothing like a AWD burnout. I was kind of a Buschur Racing poster boy. Care was blazing fast but broken ALL the time.
