Default Engine Mounts comparison?

I need engine mounts and would like to know the difference if any between the OEM and the aftermarket brands? Any replies are greatly appreciated! Oh and who has the best price?

I have heard all bad reports about the aftermarket ones. Linsdey Racing, Koklen etc... some actually fit, but wore out in months... others gave huge vibrations. Stock seems to be the most recommended as RS said.

OEM motor mounts are a safe bet, but so is their damage to your wallet.

I believe aftermarket mounts come in solid rubber and hydraulic form, where the hydraulic ones have much better dampening characteristics.
I recently got mine from here and they seem to do their job well (hydraulic from Meyle Industries).

I asked another vendor where they got theirs from and they responded that they got them from a reputable company called “Original Teile”. I never heard back from them, after I asked them to take an extra look at the box for the manufacturer name since “Original Teile” means original parts in German, an unlikely name for a manufacturer.

As you can see from the picture it was time to change them.

DON'T get the aftermarket mounts. Mine failed after ~20k miles. It's not a job you want to do too often.

I went w/ solid aluminum so I'll never have to change them again. Haven't started the car yet, though, to see how rough it will be.

BTW, don't disconnect the a-arms as most procedures say. Just leave them attached as you lower the crossmember. It saves you an alignment.

Solid mounts are not very rough.

Good to hear. Do you have yours mated to a solid tranny mount? I put one of those in as well. I've heard I should Locktite just about everything..

Your kidding, right special tool??

Do NOT buy aftermarket mounts. Ever. Total waste of money.
They will fail in very short order, and are never as smooth as OEM.

Has anyone looked into using other aftermarket type motor mounts?

The 928 community has identified that Anchor 2698 motor mounts used in Ford trucks during the 80's are a less expensive replacement which apparently work well at a tremendous savings ($45 vs.$150 per mount).

No, I am not kidding - I BARELY noticed them.
I still use the rubber transmission mount.

What about the "super mounts"? Anyone using those?

I had a pair of Porsche mounts installed around 83k miles (bought them from the local dealer). At 88k miles while the engine was out getting rebuilt, it was noticed that one mount was already leaking. We replaced both at that time.

I picked up a set of super mounts from Lindsey. With a foot of snow in Il, it will be some time before they get tested. They are solid top and bottom with a very stiff rubber mount in the middle. They appear to be very well made (for 500.00 they should be!!) I will report on the mounts in the spring.

You paid $500 for engine mounts for a track car?
