Oil Cooler seal job, Anything else?
My 88 951 is leaking oil and coolant from the oil cooler. There is no milkshake yet but it needs to be tended to. Does the "Oil cooler seal kit" from paragon have everything I need? Are there any other seals or gaskets I should replace while I am in there? And do I need to tool to align the OPRV?

You got lucky or you know your way around, some other don't.
Either case, the OPRV alignment tool gives you a much more accurate and precise alignment rather than anything else, that is why it is crucial to use one.

BTW, at long as the OPRV is not sitting crooked and binding in the hole when it is installed, regardless if you use the tool or not, there will be no difference in pressure, flow,volume, or operation.

Jeremy, what i meant to say is that for $15 investment into that tool i believe it is worthwile, and the manuals mention using it as well.........it's good to use it.

I am working on a write-up of this job for my website. Should be up in a day or two. In the meantime, here is my parts list for the write-up, showing some of the other parts you may want to consider. The kit you mention includes parts for the n/a cars that you do not need for the turbo. In fact, the only parts from the kit needed for the turbo are the big gasket and the two oil pipe o-rings. Here is my list of parts...
1. Housing Gasket: 944 107 147 03
2. Oil Connector Pipe O-rings (2 needed): 999 707 043 40
Note: Seal kit 944 107 165 98 includes items 1 and 2 above, plus unneeded parts
3. Oil Pressure Relief Valve O-ring:
For original 3-piece valve: no o-ring needed
For retrofit one-piece in a 1986 motor: 944 107 935 11 or 999 707 145 40
For 1987 and later motors: 944 107 935 01 or 999 707 146 40
4. Oil Pressure Relief Valve Seal Washer (all): N 043 815 3
5. Oil Pressure Relief Valve Installation Tool:
For 1986 motors: 9215
For 1987 and later motors: 9262/1
6. Oil Connector Pipe (updated): 951 107 152 03
7. Oil Pressure Relief Valve (if needed):
For 1896 motors: 944 107 035 11
For 1897 and later motors: 944 107 035 01
8. Oil Cooler Hoses: 951 207 113 03 and 951 207 111 03
9. Seal washers for oil line fittings (2 needed): 900 123 011 30
(needed if you remove fittings on housing, but not if you just remove oil cooler lines from fittings)

Also I think the tool for the 87+ cars is different and around $50 or more does anyone have any advice about where to get it or maybe a clearer explination of how to do it without it. Im really not sure what it does...

I just recently did this job and didn't use the alignment tool, no problems. I don't know if it matters, but I have the early 3 peice OPRV. I'm not sure if the late style OPRV is tougher to align, but I had no problems whatsoever.

There's no element of luck in this operation. As Jeremy said, install the housing with the OPRV in it and it's basically impossible to misalign it. Listen to those who've done it.

I purchased and used the official Porsche tool when I did this job last year. It has a knurled end and is hand-screwed into the OPRV threads. I have to say that it took me four or five tries to torque the oil cooler housing in place before it was aligned well enough to unscrew the alignment tool by hand. This suggests to me that you get a better alignment using the tool. I am sure Jeremy is correct, that if you verify the OPRV is free to move after the housing is torqued down everything should be fine. After my experience, however, I wouldn't try this job without using the correct tool.

Waterguy, you had to try repeatedly because of poor technique - if you had installed the alignment tool in the housing, and then installed it, it would have been spot on the first time, even blindfolded.

Probably. Paragon sell it as well.
But it's a different tool for the later OPRV's which they don't sell.
I believe it's more crucial on the early 1-piece.
