Actual thick ceramic pipe! Danm exhaust weighs a ton, but really keeps the heat in. That exhaust is one of the reasons your cars were so danm expensive in the 80s. What you have on the outside of the pipes is, more or less, a heat shield. Wrapping your headers or getting them ceramic coated is somewhere between overkill and bad. You may trap too much heat in the pipe, and end up having it melt and collapse. This actually happens with the stock double-walled downpipe for some people.

I realize the stock look headers aren't exactly the sexiest thing in your engine bays, but sometimes you have to comprimise function for style.

The head ports are ceramic, the inside of the exhaust is not, just stainless steel.

In all fairness, I believe the major reason I (who hasn't done squat to my car yet!! ) and others, were doing a coating on the headers was to facilitate a lower temps under the hood, rather that keep the exhaust gases hot .... at least from my perspective

Ed, same here, it was to keep underhood temps down... I certainly dont see any ceramics on the inside of my exhaust.

Andrew, nice picture. I had my intake and headers Hot-Jet coated and it really helped reduce the under the hood temps plus it look like chrome.

I also like your fuel lines - where did you get them?

Thanks

NZ, That’s how my headers looked 3 years ago. The hot parts get a little dull and flakes slightly, but still look (and functions) better than original. They are coated on the inside too and I did it for the typical two reasons: higher exhaust energy (quick turbine) and lower engine room temperature. Oh well it looks good too.

HPC and Jet-Hot have coatings that look identical, but for customer service and turn-around time reasons I’ll go with Jet-Hot next time.

The bling wont last long after a few spirited drives....but it looks good in that picture!

I coated and wrapped mine, I'll take a pic of them tommorow. I love popping the hood after a hard drive, and see the glowing headers... they arent shiny anymore though

On my car, only the cylinder head exhaust ports are ceramic coated. I cut a bellows out of a 1-4 header and welded it into a 2-3 header and neither had ceramic inside. The crossover pipe that I removed this week to add a custom wastegate tube and flange doesn't have ceramic in it.

Claus, do you have a picture of your 2-3 header bellow modification?
I have a header set, where the 2-3 header is somehow twisted and thought about this change too, but what about the tagged on shields?
