Anyone got a tap to loan or have a part number for a long shank tap for the bottom of the head stud in the engine block...or where would the best place to get one? TIA.

Check these machine tool suppliers: KBC Tools and Machinery (www.kbctools.com), Enco (www.use-enco.com), or MSC Industrial Supply (www.mscdirect.com).

delayed response .....................braze a piece of tube over the regular M12x1.5 tap ..
or cut a few grooves or flats onto the threaded part of a head stud ... perhaps grind a taper .. then use copper coat or nickel anti seize to with good lube you will be able to push the thread back into shape ..the stud is harder than the block ..
then test torque the thread with a bit of 0.5' tube cut to length to simulate the head ..
