Should I upgrade from a PowerPerfect to a Mafterburner?
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but...
With a PowerPerfect I can control the amount of fuel which is used at WOT and the amount of fuel while idling. My goal is an AFR of 14.7:1 while idling and 12.5 at WOT.
Everything between idling and WOT is controlled by the chips and cannot be influenced by the PowerPerfect controller.
Questions:
1) Does the Mafterburner also only control the amount of fuel at WOT and while idling?
2) If the answer to question 1 is YES, than why should I upgrade to a Mafterburner?
I am going to order a WBO2 and an EGT sensor to guide me while fine tuning my car with my current PowerPerfect controller and I am wondering if the Mafterburner is worth the extra $ 500,--.

Hi Frank,
I'm thinking about it too. From what I understand, you can
adjust timing too with Perfect Power which is a plus. Whatever
is in between idling & wot, it would be better to have a chip
burn for the turbo that you're using & use the PG for fine tuning.

I don't write from experience because I am just goint to wire the PowerPerfect today but . . .
The PowerPerfect instructions state that there are 32 setpoints, not just two at idle and WOT. First, read the sales blurb on LR website and download the instructions. The instructions are pretty good. Then call Dave Lindsey if you purchased yours from him and he'll help you. I purchased mine from another lister and Dave was very helpful even though he didn't sell it to me.

I have been using the PowerPerfect for about a year. Yes, there are 32 setpoint, but these points are only to adjust the fuel mappings at WOT and idle.

My experience so far:
The problem with the PowerPerfect is that an adjustment on pot 1 (of 4) influences pot 2. An adjustment an pot 2 influences pot 1 and 3. After adjusting a pot meter I always take the powerperfect to my computer for fine adjustments. It is very hard to adjust that certain spot you want to adjust, but it can be done!
I know the Mafterburner has more adjustment spots and has a better interface for editing on a computer. It also gives you the option of adjusting the maps with a laptop while driving the car. The software gives you more information.
However, fine tuning the car is not a daily business. Once the PowerPerfect or MafterBurner is set correctly you don't have to adjust anymore untill something changes on you cars setup (turbo, injectors,...).
In my opinion I can fine tune the car quicker with the MafterBurner. What I would like to know is if I can fine tune the car BETTER with the MafterBurner in stead of the PowerPerfect.
Can I justify buying a MafterBurner and throwing my PowerPerfect in the bin???

I was talking about the smt 6. I think theres provision
for timing adjustment as well. Anyway, if the chips
are properly programme, I should think any PG will
do the job equally well.

Frank is talking about Lindsey's "Power Perfect" and not the product SMT-6 from "Perfect Power".
Very confusing though with 2 different piggyback's with similar names!

I have the power perfect and iam running 14:7 at idle and 12.5 at full boost, and yes you can adjust everything in between idle and Wot. This is a log from my wideband sensor:

Hi,
The power perferct controller is a signal modifier, pure and simple. all it does is alter the voltage signal from the MAF sensor as it is passed along to the car's ECM. It allows you to "customize" your existing chips to your engine's operating realities. Once adjusted, the engine will respond to X amount of air that is pulled across the air flow meter with a corresponding amount of fuel weather that amout of air is at WOT or part throttle. That is why you can basically eliminate your oxigen sensor as your means of mixture control since that function is dictated by your inputs at the power perfect.
