Engine Code ?

I just did a search and I didn't come with anything. Just curious what our engine designation is? I know Japaneese cars have engine names like; VG30DETT, or 2JZGTZ. Just curious what our engine designation is?

If this has been beaten to death please point me in the right direction, I don't want to upset anyone. Just a simple question.

M44.51 or M44.52 the 52 being the 88S model and model year 89 IIRC.

88 on (were last cars built in 91?) turbo was M44.52
