Question Loud resonating/vibration question

My "new" '89 951 has a loud resonating sound that I initially thought was just a loose exhaust bracket. I am beginning to think that it is the heat shield vibrating. I have all the bolts secured but the issue persists and the exhaust seems solid.

1. Has anyone else had this problem?
2. What is the best way to modify/secure the heat shield to resolve this?
3. How many people have just removed the heat shield and left it off?

Yea, I have the same problem. At about 3K rpms, up to about 4K, there is a loud resonating sound. It sounds like a heat shield to me, but I haven't been able to locate the source. The resonating sound seems to be coming from either the lower front or middle of the car. If anyone has any info about this, please let me know as well. Thanks.

Check to make sure the bolts on the wastegate bracket to torque tube bracket are tight. That one drove me crazy until I found it. Also the heat shield between the oil filter and the headers needed to be adjusted so as not to rattle against the headers on my car.

There is a heatsheild located underneather/behind the headers. Mind is loose/misplaced and rattles on 1,200-1,600rpm or so, may want check that out?

quite often, one of the support brackets for the heat shield between the oil filter and header will crack, there is a heat shield over the starter, same deal. There are two small tabs that secure the rear of the shield to the back of the starter, not unusual to see one of those broken either. If you can wedge the throttle so the noise is constant, you can use a screwdriver to put pressure on the oil filter heat shield and see if that's you problem. If it isn't, you need to get under the car and start looking, there are heat shields everywhere.
Good luck
