Default Can Non 5X130mm Wheels Fit Our Cars?

What modification is required to make a non 5X130mm wheel fit on an 87? I remember hearing something about custom spacers that could be made to make just about any wheel fit just about any car. Is that correct, or does anyone have any experience w/ this.

I am interested in this also ... I purchased a set of rims for autocrossing my daily driver (Prelude, 5x113.?mm I think, 45mm offset). I recently picked up an '83 944 na that will be assuming this role in the future and it would be nice to re-use these rims.

On an early offset car (1986), it could be possible to do with some custom spacers. However, a late offset car makes this desire difficult, as it doesn't leave much room for clearance issues.

Yeah, on the early cars, you can get a 50-60mm offset wheel and use a 20-30mm custom spacer with different bolt-pattern. But not on the '87+ cars, unless you want to use 70-80mm offset wheels, which aren't easy to find. Most aftermarket wheels are in the 30-50mm offset range, so even with an early car, you don't have much room for a spacer to adapt those wheels.
