So, am I correct in thinking that the 6 pearl white 951s were the first 951s brought to the US in '86? If so, they all must have very low digit VINs (the last 4 digits), or at least sequential VINs. It could be a way to tell a true factory Pearl 951 from an imposter.

I think you will find there are more than 6 of them out there. It appears that between sailracers(now deep-purple) recent sale, the wrecked one on ebay, the one in the ad above, the PCA car in Baltimore, the RL'er with the pearl Fuchs. There's 5 right here on RL. Wasn't it a special dealer promo for high volume dealers?

I just heard from the seller in the ad, and the last 4 digits of the VIN is 6569 and has the right color code. So this puts both this car and deep-purple's car closer to the end of the production run (there were 7513 US-spec in 86 according to Morgan's book and an additional 105 in 85)
I don't dispute that it's a rare color (and a gorgeous one), but I'd bet it's either the case that
1) this promotional run story is a Rennlist myth -- (someone claimed it at one point, and we keep repeating what he said).
2) there was a promotional run, but the cars we're seeing are not one of the six, but a later production, like 2Tight suggests. I also think that custom-order color cars got produced near the end of each year.
Man, if the car turned out to be one of the very first 951, I would have thought about buying it for its historical signficance. Oh well...

Sailracer's ad for the car said that it was one of the 18. I have to say that even though a nice finish and color was not on my priority list, the car looks great.

Someone has mentioned that there were actually 1985-vintage 951s produced but they were Euro-spec only. THAT would be a piece of history. I don't know if any were ever produced with the early interior but I'd imagine those would fetch a pretty penny also.

hello everyone, well mine is an 86 pearl white, blk interior, ****s wheels.
sorry to say it's a repaint. but to the untrained eye it may be a jewel.
when i had the car repainted i didn't know that there were any pearl whites out there, thought i'd be different plus the original white on it seemed hard to keep shinny so i opted to get it repainted.
sorry if i am classified as an imposter but i didn't know that i'd be faking the funk when i made the decision.
but thanks everyone for that piece of history.

I just bought a L0A9 Pearl White 951 with burgundy interior. Since they seam to be special all Pearl white with burgundy interior there must have been something Porsche did to distinguish these cars. There must be a reason they are all Pearl White with burgundy interior. Im trying to find out more information on them if anyone knows.
