Default 951 STILL smokes coming off boost... ideas?

Ever since I installed my new turbo, my car would smoke oil out of the exhaust when I come off boost... since this was the case, I figred it couldnt be the new turbo, as there was no oil in the intercooler pipes, so it was definately my valve stem seals (which a lot of other 951 owners confirmed). So, I had my head rebuilt and after having it installed, the car still smokes when coming off boost (but the car feels a lot stronger, so having the head rebuilt wasn't all bad).... any advise?

-Randy

Edited because people are taking the thread the wrong way.

the t04e's need a restrictor.

john I have a question. What oil pressure is deemed normal on a to4e running 20psi?

40?-50? 60?

I am not positive, my friend Ahmet did most of the install, I just assisted in where I could lend a hand... How would a restrictor be installed? If it came with the Stage 2 kit, he installed it, I know for sure... I will ask him later, but is this the cause if it wasnt installed you think? Also, do you think an oil catch can would help any?

Bash? I am bashing noone so dont start with that, and dont turn my thread into making me the badguy, I am just looking for advise. I WILL say that Konstatin has been a real pain to deal with, and I am not happy with THAT situation, but not Vitesse, they have been real helpfull through the entire process...

If there is no oil in the intercooler pipes then a catch can is not needed.

OK. I'm just clearing that up. Some people can take that the wrong way. I did'nt want to see something bad start.

I don't run a restrictor in mine and I have no problems. Thats not to say it can't be your case.

Good luck, soory to cause trouble. It was 'nt my intent..

Can you explain to me an oil restrictor? Is this something we should have done in addition to the oil feed line that was installed?

Randy is your car tuned yet?

Some of that smoke we saw when you were on the dyno was from the excessive rich conditions in your motor as it came to redline.

Car is FAIRLY tuned, but it needs more. The wideband will get hooked up this week sometime- I plan to dyno the car on Sunday (SMT6 is finally installed)... There isnt any black smoke though- if you watch teh dyno video, by the last dyno run, only oil smoke was coming out (which is the case now)- and it only does it when coming off boost, not during acceleration...

Randy,

I always respond to emails and I'm always assisting customers, it would have been nice if you sent me an email letting me know of the issues. Now that I know of the problem you have from the list, instead of directly from you... let's address the issue.

- Some not all TO4Es do smoke a bit, especially with cars that have high oil pressure such as the 951. When there is oil smoke (a puff I assume) and when it's caused by the turbo an oil restrcitor is used. Some use a 60 thou restrictor (B951S), others use 90-120 Thou....

Few areas that you need to check prior to declaring parts as damaged etc...

- What is your compression, what are the leakdown numbers?
- Do you have any crankcase pressure?
- Have you installed the SMT6 yet? Did you fine tune your AFR yet?
You and Ahmet, against my advise, decided to dyno the car, to do many hi-hp runs before installing the SMT6 and fine tuning. Were you guys running rich to wash the cylinder walls? Were you running lean?

To hear about this on the Rennlist (and not from you), bothers me. But what bothers me more is that you almost jumped to conclusion, when there were lots of things left for you to do and investigate.

For anyone needing assistance, the only way to get it is to email me or call me!!

While on the subject of turbos.. I am redesigning all of the turbos Stage 2,3,4 and 5. The new design will not require a restrictor, and so far we are getting great results SPECIALTOOL can give info on this regards as he's trying the new Stage 3... Stage 2 wil be tested this week...
