Default Chip versus chip...

Just opening a debate…

I know everyone has their favorite vendor for a chip set-up. But realistically, power-wise if chip is boosting 15PSI with or without a banjo bolt or wastegate shims, or with all the other bits people are putting in the upgrade as part of their mod to achieve 15PSI of boost, apart from the quality of fuel to air mixture graph obtained - power hike should really be the same YES OR NO?

So if someone has Guru, Vitese, Authority, Europroducts or my Superchips for that fact 15 PSI is 15PSI power-wise right?

Just wondering…. Sipping bud, wasting time…

Many variables affect your horsepower, not just boost. You have the Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) and timing...
Perhaps MySwiss can comment a bit on how timing affects the car..

We're talking 10+ wheel tq/hp in many cases. Whether that's night and day is up to your money to decide.

I had europroducts and they were ok when i wasn't very modded but as soon as i started upgrading the turbo etc... i had major problems and switch to guru. The guru chips seem to work very well but i haven't had a chance to make it to the dyno get my A/F curves yet.

Here we go again.....
I really think very few people will feel 10-15 hp. You will see it on a dyno but never feel
it in the real world. With a street car driveability is king, IMHO. I dont care if the car makes
more power. If its cold natured, has a narrow powerband, hesitates or stumbles, then it drives me nuts. The thing I noticed with Vitesse AFM chips is that it is so smooth. No pissy cold driviing issues. No transition from vac to boost issues, no stumbling, etc. Just smooth, factory like, power.
Sorry to ramble on but you really need to look at the overall driveability when deviating from stock on any mod. I think a lot of 'tuners' take the easy way and just dial up fuel/timing and boost and sacrifice driveability.

No. As fast 951 mentioned, timing and A/F ratio's contribute as much as boost. I've never tried or dynoed the Superchips but I've heard that it is the least aggressive of the chips you listed. I have however tried and dynoed the APE's (219HP/257TQ), Weltmeister (225HP/260TQ), Guru's (230HP/265TQ), and Vitesse(240HP/285TQ). All on the same car, same mods, same boost. The only variation is when I dynoed the Vitesse chip, they were exposed to the worst dyno conditions (110 degree temp, no cooldown, half-assed fans blowing, wrong FPR, stock cat)

i think awilson and jeremy covered many of the important issues. something else to watch for is the safety factor, if you plot an AF curve will you be running lean or rich in particular areas. this affects the long term health of your engine.

I like my europroducts chips, but I am kind of bypassing them, so that kind of defeats the purpose. I use a power perfect and have the chips just to get rid of the boost cut. Good luck, I have heard Vitesse has the best chips, and much better customer service then some of the other tuners.
