Default Knock Indicator?

While going through the KLR code & functionality, there is a possibility to come up with a knock indicator. Something that displays knock and the intensity, the gauge will be similar to an AFR gauge with lights etc.. 951 owners with the LM1, Zeitronix or similar systems with data logging capabilities might be able to log the signal.. Of course the SMT6 can log it and we can use the information for tuning etc..

This is a preliminary investigation, I have no idea on the cost of the gadget, just thinking in the $250-300 range..... What do you guys think?

BTW The KLR has some very nice knock filtering mechanisms and algorithms...

So what you're proposing would use the stock KLR to produce the signal (along with the stock knock sensor)?

Either way, I'm interested and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

We use the stock KLR & Knock sensor, we will provide additional hardware to capture/interpret/display the signal.

I was planning on getting it but haven't got round to checking if my knock sensor is the right style,
Where are they fitted?

I have seen the above device, it just gives you raw data, not processed knock data. My plan is to use the KLR and its filtering mechanism... The KLR does all sort of calculations and timing, in my opinion it's the way to go.

Getting the knock data from the KLR after processing the knock signal vs. just getting the voltage from the knock sensor it compares to "watching the exhaust smoke vs. reading the wideband AFR".

I'll be on the list, thank you.

John - maybe I should give you my bank codes, so that when you have a new product you can just send it out and take the money???

That stage 3 turbo is the most insane %$!@&^& thing I have ever experienced in ANY car, formula or production.

John, is that stage 3 kit so much more powerful than the stage 2? Going to buy on of the kits in the winter sometime
And whats a race MAF?

tma951, SpecialTool is running the new Stage 3, actually it's the ONLY new stage 3 in use now. The turbo is designed to spoolup quickly and to flow plenty of air... Based on information I have received from Specialtool, it spools up faster than his K27/6 and based on his comments, the turbo is "INSANE" I guess that means it performs well. He is maxing out his MAF with this turbo, which he didn't do with the K26/6 at 24psi. I have not released any info on this turbo as I'm waiting to get dyno results first... A new Stage 2 is in the work as well! The plan is to have it tested by next week!
Again, the goal is even quicker spoolup and more top end power... Again no data to release yet, I'm waiting on the dyno numbers. If I'm happy with the results the turbos will be available, otherwise we keep using the existing products...

The Race MAF is a MAF with a different design. It requires plenty of space to install (not for a stock car with headlights).

15 psi at around 3700. Haven't been to the dyno yet becuase I just stuck the thing in there last week.
Put it this way, my k27 was 330/347 rwhp/tq at 20-21 psi and this turbo is MUCH stronger with comparable spoolup at only 16 psi. It lights up new 275 Michelins on the straight in THIRD gear - the k27 could barely do that in second. The turbo does not burn or leak a drop of oil. It sent my Autothority MAF to 95% at only 5700 revs.

Oh - it isn't tuned yet, either. I have no doubts that I can lower the boost threshold with the SMT6. I lowered the onset of the k27 about 300 revs when I got the SMT6.

Link already do a very sweet Knock Block setup... I am getting one next week. You can plug headphones into the Knock Block and hear the detonation throug the knock sensor! Also outputs to a very swish 2 1/16 gauge.

Neat piece. I saw it the other day, along with the Knock gauge. And I understand the Uego unit is also available to output to the Lambda gauge. Lots of neat stuff coming our way.

Would this indicator reach its own conclusions about when the engine is knocking, or would it flag those events that the KLR/DME deems a "knock" for purpose of the ignition timing? I think there are options out there for the former, but the latter would be unique I believe.
