if the car has a limited slip, what you hear is the clutches in the diff. chattering. Try putting in some friction modifyer, available from most auto parts stores, and see what happens. I was going to ask you if it started after a fluid change, that's the give away. If you check the specs on the fluid you put in, you'll probably find that it is not rated for a limited slip diff. The cv joint thing should not be steering input sensitive, they usually click under a specific throttle setting or load. Turning the steering wheel has little or no effect on the angle of the cv joints in out rear drive cars.

i'd sure HOPE they came with new hardware (bolts). iirc i got my new ones from lindsey racing for under 200 maybe closer to 150 - came pre-packed with grease (and plastic caps to protect it until installation), all of the cv bolts, etc. the proper socket costs about $5-10 at a hardware store, or about $20 from snap-on.

that said, mht is right, the fluid change lit a little light bulb in my head, which oil did you change from/to?

So, if I drain all the fluid out of the transmission, and put, the one rated for Limtied slip, because my car has that, then it should fix the problem without replacing?

hinch951, if the sounds indeed started after the fluid change, get that stuff out of there.

Check your option label in the trunk compartment for the limited slip diff code (220 maybe?) and if your vehicle has that diff, put the Redline oil in which is specifically made for the LS diffs as it contains the friction modifiers.

Thanks for the hints...and I do believe it is the chattering sound...I will change that out this weekend for sure!!! Do you think I would have to order the fluid...And also, my mechanic changed it last time, isnt there a plug, does the old one just drain out, and you pump the new one in the same plug it came out of, via pump????

hinch951, you too funny grasshopper !

Yes, order new fluid, check the local places for the CORRECT fluid for the LS diff, or order online, I think you'll need 2 quarts?

There is a Fill plug and a Drain plug, both are a 17mm inset hex/allen-type thing. Make sure you can get the Fill plug out first (located on the side of the case, near the inner CV on the drivers side), that one usually siezes. the Drain plug is on the very bottom of the diff, usually easier to crack loose.

Yep, you'll need a small hand pump of some kind to get the fluid in there, it is not a spot where you can pour it in.

- Later.

talk to paragon they can point you in the right direction both fluid and process wise. jason, chuck, skip and the rest over there are awesome

btw - it CAN be poured you just need a LONG length of flexible hose and a funnel, and expect to loose a little / waste some in the line doing so - creative routing above the exhaust, thru a wheel-well, etc... it's easiest to do on a lift with an assistant, but can be done in your driveway on jackstands.
