Better tires
My car has Kumho ecsta 712's on it. It might just be my skill level, but the car doesn't seem to handle that well. 951's should have excellent handling ever when stock right? Car has 16" Fuchs on it. What tires should I get that aren't too expensive?
Thanks, Josh

It isnt you the Ecsta 712 is the biggest POS tire on the market.

On really hard corners it isn't hard to get into trouble! Even on long sweeping bends the tires squeel and start to give at around 70mph. If my 03' F150 can take a bend at 50 then my 951 can get it at 60. The Pilots sound good.

hey, heres a tire question I've been wanting to ask for a while... Are Falken Azenis Sports usable on the 951? Are there better options in that price range? Not that I need a new set yet.

I can third that. I've got a Kumho in my garage to use as a spare. It is hard as a rock and was awful for traction. I now have a set of the Fuzions and they are wonderful! I have to agree the difference is night and day!

A lot of Porsche guys here in Sweden praise them as the best street tire on the market. I'd also consider Dunlop Supersport Race which I run on one set of wheels. They are the cheapest way of coming close to R-compound.

IMO the best tire that is still affordable is the Bridgestone RE-750. Before that I had Yoko ES-100's and hated them. The sidewalls were way too soft for my taste. Spend a little more and get the 750's. Also, you say your car doesn't handle well. Are you using the same struts/shocks that came on the car? If so, they are probably shot being so old. Just something to think about...

I have to agree with Danton about the RE750s. I have the tire that the 750 replaced (RE730) on my 951 now and love them. Excellent tire. I have the RE750s on my daily driver as well.

My car had a set of crappy Yokohamas on it when I bought it and one of the first things I did was swap them for a set of Pilots. Bought them from Tire Rack and had them mounted and balanced locally - worked out great. Love those tires. Much better ride and grip than the previous tires and quieter at highway speeds. I don't have too many miles on them though so it will be interesting to see what they're like in a year or so.

I've run the Pilot and ES 100 back to back. The Pilot is a better tire but not the 2x better that the price would indicate.
