Default Who has best prices on K27/6 turbos?

I am going to upgrade my K26/6 to a K27/6 7200, does anyone know what vendor has the lowest price for either a new one(yeah I know, good luck) or to rebuild mine.

If you are not sure of a turbo vendor’s particular price, feel free to just post the vendor and I can do my own price comparisons.

Thanks,
John

I tried contacting Majestic Turbo in texas. The said that they charge $350 for the 'typical' rebuild ( i guess just seals and bearing) and add extra for impeller blades etc. Can't remember what they charge for the K27 upgrade.

When i asked regarding upgrading from a K26/6 to a K27/6 they wanted me to call since they wanted so much info from me. I though a K27 upgrade was just a K27 compressor, i guess not i can't call (im outside the US)

Here is their website: http://www.majesticturbo.com/

The cheapest quote I got for upgrading a k6/6 to a k27/6 was $600.
Majestic quoted me $690 by the way.

I am considering the same thing. There are quite a few posts in which Tony G recommended a place called turboperformance. Search his posts. I think the quote was $650.

aside from a modification to the water pipe, is a K27 a direct bolt on?

I am doing some research in this as well becuase I plan on doing this upgrade in the spring!! I REALLY like the replys I hear from others running this turbo. I wondering the same question but another thing I wonder about is the K27-8 with a Ball Bearing. How would this spool up? Close to a K26-6 turbo? If so, that would be a killer turbo for just a drop in, well what we consider a drop in.

The other question, you guys say you have to mod the water pump, how so?

yes clearance with the bottom of the throttle body is a little tight, but it should still fit.

you don't have to do anything to the water pump. you do have to modify the water pipe. some folks have had success just bending it, some folks use brass extenders to change the way it fits. point is it won't clear the compressor wheel properly if it's not modified.

I just called Majestic and talked to them, for an UPGRADE K26/6 turbo which includes a re-build, clip of the wheels for faster spool up (about 300 rpm sooner), they machine out the intake side to make it bigger (not near as big as a K27 side but still bigger). That cost is $650 out the door if your turbo works now, meaning nothing major needs replaced. "At running the same PSI in the car before and after install, you are looking at a 30-40 HP increase." Then I asked him about a upgrade to a 8 hotside and he really didn't think that is a great set-up due to the fact it will take longer to build boost. That would cost another $180 or so he said but really tried to push me away from it.

NOW, here is my question for all of you, hopefully TonyG will ring in but, if you have that wheel which is spinning up faster now, say at 2,700 rpm full boost instead of 3,000 rpm, if you added that 8 hotside wheel, yes the lag would go up but by how much? I mean the turbo is being made to have a quick spool now so wouldn't that help the spool up so you could have the boost by say 3,100 or 3,200 rpm??

I still don't know if getting the 8 hotside would be worth it, because they do make the K26 side better/bigger. The other problem, I have the Guru chip set at 15psi, I would like to keep the 15psi set-up and I know I need to get new chips, could danno make the chips from that, or does he have previous experience from them? If so, I would like to hear about that.

i believe what you're talking about is the so called. 'cheater' setup. it will spool faster than the k27 but in the end it won't make as much power. in my personal experience a k27/8 spools up about 400 rpm slower than a k27/6 but has the capability to make more power.

Does anyone have a dyno runs or know about how much more power on a pretty much stock car to keep it simple?

Mike: I bugged the crap out of Danno at Guru Racing regarding the K27/6 and the K27/8 set-ups

The K27/6 wouldn't require a 'chip' upgrade since your keeping the hot side. But i doubt it's a 30~40hp, more like 20ho or so (not sure on that).

The K27/8 would spool up much slower, ~500rpm, and to get the most would be a set of chips customized for the K27/8.

As far as power, the K27/8 would hold/make around 10hp or so at higher rpm levels. But i wante dto ask, since the K27/6 is the 'best bang for buck' turbo out there, does it run out of steam as teh K26/6 at high rpms?

Does anyone here have a K27/6 installed on a stock car? some feedback would be great!

BTW, the K27/6 could support around 330~340whp on 18psi (with MAF, INjectors and usual bolt ons).

The K27/8 would hold 370whp or so at ~20-21psi (usual bolt ons).

I would go with a to4e 50AR comp housing 50 trim wheel turbine side stage 3 wheel #8 replica housing.Ask them how much then, get a set of chips from Vitesse, and you're in business.Ask Majestic what kind of HP you can make from that turbo you might like it.

But does that still a bolt on? Does it have the coolant and oil to go in? How much do you need to mod other items to make it work?
