Default WTB: Wastegate

Looking for a Tial(or something similar)wastegate for my '86 951. My car is making full boost but only in teh higher gears, so I think my WG is shot.
Thanks
Mike

Your wastegate probably is weak but if you want more boost in the lower gears you should try a boost controller if you don't have one already. It also depends on your turbo but even the stock K26/6 should be good for 14psi in the lower gears.

Sorry i worded it weird, i meant i am getting no boost in the lower gears, maybe 3psi on 2nd unless i reallllly get on it and get the revs high, doesn't seem right.

Mike: No boost on low gears? you should be seeing ~11psi at 3,000-3,200 on the k26/6, dropping off to ~9psi or so after 5,000rpm. If not, then maybe you should check your car first.

It may be an exhaust leak preventing the turbo from spooling, or the car may be in "limp mode". Just tossing out a couple of ideas.

If your only getting 3 psi in 2nd gear then I don't think a weak wastegate is your problem. It sounds like you have cracked or loose hose somewhere. I'd check the around the IC pipes. Also the boot after the AFM and all the hoses under the intake manifold. Is this something new? Your using an aftermarket boost gauge correct?

The first thing you want to check, before buying a Tial, is your cross over pipe.....if you have the 2 piece(late model), then we have a straight bolt on kit for 315$(shipping included). But if you have a 1 piece cross over(early), then you can still fit it, but you will need a local muffler shop to modify your inlet pipe.

MySwiss,

I sent you a PM regarding your Tial 38mm wastegate kit. Please let me know via email if you did not get it.

Thanks!
