Default How much time for this job?

My car has oil in the expansion tank. There is no milkshake on the oil filler cap or on the dipstick. I suspect it is the oil cooler seals. I might as well do all the belts and the waterpump as well because the camshaft seal (front) is leaking. How long would it take for me to do this job? I consider myself an average mechanic. Trying to determine if it is worth it for me to do this instead of the mechanic. Thanks in advance!

Oil cooler seals :2~3 hours

Water Pump : ~4 hours: Due to the fact that everything in the front needs to be removed, belts, rear belt cover, pump, bolts etc.

'While Your In There', replace ALL front seals, rollers, tensioners. Dont forget the TWO thermostats and seals for those t-stats, along with new hardware.

A waterpump job in a shop is quoted as 8 hours. If youve never done it before, allow a lot more time than 8 hours. I spent a week doing my pump job, but that included the usual waiting for parts, making my own flywheel lock, pin spanner and thin wrench for the rollers, and finally double and triple checking everything.

I would say give you're self a full day, you never know what can happen once you're in there.

Don't forget you'll need to set the tension of the timing and balance shaft belts... requiring that you beg/borrow/steal the 9201 tool made from unobtainium...

http://arnnworx.com/

He sells hand made tools for the project. It took me much longer than 8 hours; however, I was born slow and losing ground ever since. His tool for setting the tension on the belts works but the next time I'm purchasing the 9201 tool. Good luck

Thanks all! I'll be doing all the belts, seals, and the waterpump. Mechanic wanted too much money.
