Default quick help - camshaft seal wear

replacing the camshaft seal, and there is wear on the carrier ring that slip onto the end of the camshaft. Had similar wear on the camshaft, and replaced the splined ring.

Do I need to run to the dealership and get a new one of these as well, or is the wear ok here?

maybe a few .001'ths, can just barely feel it with my fingernail.

TIA
Ian

Best to replace it, you're taking your chances if not.

on second thought... looks like the old one is going back in.

cant get new ones until next friday... need to get the car off jacks. If it's really leaking from there, I should be able to get in and out pretty quick in the future now that I have the right tools.

just in case anyone wants to know, the part # is 928-105-139-02 and costs USD 38.66.

-Ian

PS. Thanks sam for the quick response

That is what 'kits' contain, the seals and the carriers (not everyone sells the carriers in their kits).

Think of it as replacing the oil pump seal, you can damage the sleeve while removing the seal, thus having a groove and the seal wouldn't properly be seated.

Maybe that is why they are not sold in most kits........

Ian, since you need to put it back and run the car anyway, just look after the week and see if the seal's wet - if not, don't pull it apart to replace, it'll be just fine.
