Default love hate relationship

I just picked up my 951 two days ago. I can't describe how bittersweet the feeling is when I drive it. One moment I will be loving life: tapping into the sweet spot on the tack, and the next I'll be checking the guages to make sure it's no overheating. Then I'll get all warm and fuzzy inside when I achieve the perfect apex around a corner. Shortly after, the feeling will subside when I remember that the removable roof gears broke two hours after taking delivery of her.

I guess I'm just looking for any input on how to gain complete faith in my drive; that she won't leave me stranded on the side of the road. I realize I didn't buy a Honda. Maybe some positive stories on reliability will help!

I've always had a love/hate relationship with my 951's. They can be so good that I expect too much from them. Face it, there is something about these cars that turns us into obsessive compulsive freaks about their maintenance.

One more point. My 951 is a daily driver. It is actually quite reliable. The hardest part for me was getting use to the 'active' temperature gauge. I finally learned to live with the fact that it is going to wander between the two middle marks depending upon the driving conditions.

If you are not going to do all the work yourself, scope out a good shop now while you can take your time. It's more difficult to find a shop when it's urgent.

I know the feeling.

6 months of owning the 951 and sprung my first leak.

Leaking from the dist cap area (probably a camshaft seal, though all seals were done 2 years ago).

The weird thing is, it only comes uner boost, its not even a leak, just a little wet...... but hey......18 year old car does need a lot of TLC

I drive 150 miles per day 6 days a week, I change my oil when I happen to remenber , never check the water or oil level. I have driven 88000 trouble free miles never taken my car to the mechanic is like a dream, oh yea that was my 99 land cruiser. On the other hand my 951 after 4 blown head gaskets, a clutch job, a broken ring and engine rebuild all in one year which equals to $ 14000.00+ in less than a year is driveable now, is running great I have been able to go to the 7 eleven and gas station, what a rush. I love my 951, but if you want reliable????
