Has anyone seen any of the Cup/Escort wheels for sale recently? A few years back you would see them for sale every once in while, but I have not lately.

Used to be around $2k for a set. Any ideas of the current going rate?

Lat set I saw sold went for $1900, recently refinished. A freshly refinished set is probably more like $2K or a little more. They are great wheels. FWIW, there are probably more of these wheels in Cananda than the US.

Speaking of the original finish: what do yours look like (do you have any jpgs)? Some of the sets Ive seen are the pearl/metallic white- regular gloss finish. I believe this is the common original finish. But Ive seen more than one set that are a metallic/pearl very off white, almost the color of the painted magnesium intake manifolds (almost tan, dirty silver), and they are not a gloss finish, more like a wrinkle or coarse finish. At first I didnt think this was original, but Ive seen more than one set like this and Im not sure its a coincidence.

I just made a deal on a set that is plain white, probably powder coated because they have not yellowed. But I would like to return them to an original finish.

A friend of mine has two sets in the factory finish. They are glossy pearlized white. I should be over there in the next week or so, I can try to take some pics. It's hard to get the pearl finish to show up in a photo though, I have tried before.

Not pearl, but my best effort. Porsche engrave valve stems by the way...

Gloss pearl white was the stock finish.
FWIW, the refinished wheels I had were painted, and had no signs of discoloration or peeling after some heavy track time. I guess its all about prep [peeling] adn paint quality [discoloration]. Just a guess.

I think paiting them is a bit pointless when you can powder coat... I just dont see the advantages of paint unless you want a quick cheap job.

I was very fortunate with the purchase of my 86' race car (15k miles never on the street) it came with 2 sets of cup wheels 8" & 9" x16". They were all painted burgundy, I stripped them and had them powder coated gloss white, the look great.

Nice get JF.
$4K in wheels right there makes the deal much sweeter!

JF, your car is an '86 Cup car? shouldn't it come with Fuchs? and therefore need spacers to run Mg 8" and 9"s?

Mgs ROCK!

GeorgeK:

My car is an 86' 951 street car that has never been on the street. It was converted to a race car on delivery and never street registered. Your correct about the spacers both front and rear.

OK, all clear. Thanks.
Another nice alternative is the vintage BBS 3 piece Mg rims. These weigh even less.
