My Mechanic messed up...
I brought my 86 951 into Randolph Racing (Stoughton, Mass.) 2 weeks ago to have an alignment and my wastegate installed.. Well it took over 2 weeks and niether were done right!! My Tial was installed backwards which was causing my car to Boost well over 23+ PSI!!! and he sent the car out to a "specialist" for a 4 wheel alignment and while driving home it seemed to rattle a bit and sure enough both strut tower bolts were loose the drivers side was barely on!! so I tightened them down and the car is pulling to the left:-( I have heard nothing but rave reviews about Kevin and his work but this is just really messed up! I left the Tial with box and instructions too! To top it off it all costs me $450.00 for that stuff(not including wastegate)!! I left a message since its after business hours but this is just crazy!!!!!

I had a very similar experience a few years ago. My tial was installed backwards and my car didn't even make it home before the turbo blew. It was a long, miserable road dealing with that, as the shop screwed up the install over and over. (Mostly on their dime, until now.) I just found out today, my car needs an engine rebuild. I spoke with tial during my fiasco and they told me a tial installed backwards on a 951 will spike boost to 32psi. I would document what happened and tell the shop you want a compression test and leakdown test, for free, of course. Good luck.

Stories like these is why I have always worked on my own cars, Just about everytime I have taken a car to a shop, I have ended up redoing the work. I did break down and let a shop replace the waterpump and T-belt on my daughters Mazda last month just cuz I didnt want to mess with it. So far so good.

I am not trying to trash anyone just make some awareness... If it wasnt for this board and knowing of this happening to others, and having an aftermarket bost gauge, my engine could have been killed... or I could have crashed since my suspension wasnt bolted down right. These are 2 very serious issues that could have had serious consequences. I am sure he will make it right, but people should be aware when things like this happen, its just unacceptable...

I havent had any problems with my mechanic but my mother has when she has her car worked on at the dealership. They did a tune up on her car and checked everything out and when she got the car back it sounded odd and I looked at her engine and they left the intake tube completely off and she was driving around with it off for 2 weeks. Then the tube that goes from winshield tank to the sprayers came off and she went to have them put it back on when she got her oil changed and they told her the tube wasnt off and the tank was cracked, well I popped the hod and showed her the tube was disconnected from the tank and there was no hole. Another time she got her oil changed when she first got the car she couldnt figure out how to turn the high beams on and the dealer said the lights she had on were the high beams and the extra bulbs were dummy lights but I when I drove her car those "dummy lights" turned right one when I figures out how to turn her high beams on. Shows that dealerships dont know crap about cars they even sell and service.

Dude, WTF?
I agree with Peckster that it is worth giving the shop a chance to do right by you and the car. However, I still can't believe this type of shizzle happens at either the dealship or at alleged specialist shops. There is NO acceptable EXCUSE for such a foul-up....c'mon...wastegate installed backwards? Maybe the tech (or apprentice) didn't have manuals handy? Also, if work is going to be sub-contracted out by a specialty shop...they should double-check it before returning the car to the owner and accepting their $$$
