smkn951-
You do NOT have to drop the tranny to install it. It is pretty simple if you can get your hands over the trans. It replaces the pieces at the trans, so you keep your stock shifter and boot. So you could get the 944 racing short shift kit and get the SFR kit...

I have only this :

http://www.944racing.com/Tech/944RSSK/944RSSK.htm

944 Racing Home Page
Installation Instructions 944Racing Short Shift Kit.

Applications: All 924S, 944, 944S, 944S2, 944 turbo.

Warning:

If these instructions are not followed carefully, it is possible to do serious damage to your transmission. Please read and understand these instructions before beginning installation.

Tools Needed:

Floor jack and jack stands

Basic hand tools required are: 10, 13, and 17mm hand wrenches. Safety wire and Red Loctite.

Instructions:

1. Raise car on lift or place on jack stands. Make sure car is safely and securely supported to manufacturers specification before working under the car.
2. Locate the shifter assembly on the top of the transaxle on the driver’s side (left). It’s just above and behind the driver’s side halfshaft.
Click Picture for larger view
3. Remove the stock shifter linkage.
1. Remove the 13mm bolt that attaches the shifter assembly to the shifter shaft that goes toward the front of the car, it’s hidden under a rubber cover. (See fig. A)
2. Remove the 10mm bolt that holds the shifter assembly to the selector shaft that goes into the transmission. (See fig. B)
3. Remove the 13mm nut at the top of the shifter linkage that connects to the cross support. You may need to counter hold the bolt on the back side with a 17mm wrench to keep it from spinning. (See fig. C & D)
4. Remove the shifter assembly.
Click Picture for larger view
4. Install 944Racing short shift assembly re-using the existing factory bolts. Use a small amount of Red Loctite on the 10mm bolt that connects the short shifter assembly to the selector input shaft going into the transmission. Make sure the 10mm fastener is properly engaged into the dimple on the selector input shaft. (See fig. B) Also use either red Loctite or safety wire to secure the 13mm bolt attaching the shifter assembly to the shifter shaft that goes to the front of the car (See fig. A). Before tightening the 13mm nut on the top of the 944Racing short shift kit make sure that the shifter in the car is centered properly (side to side). The top of the short shift kit has an elongated hole to allow for alignment of the shifter in the car (See fig. C).
Click Picture for larger view
5. Double check all bolts to make sure that everything is nice and snug.
6. After about 2,000 miles re-check all the bolts to make sure that they don’t work loose.
7.

Test drive your car and enjoy the nice, direct feeling of your new short shift kit.
